Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act, a law enacted in 2003 to provide rules and
regulations to protect patients' medical records
and other health information provided to health
plans, doctors, hospitals and other health care
providers (HIPAA-Web-Site, 2016).
What Criminals do with this information:
1. Identity Theft (Takes SSN#, DOB, Address and now they
have enough information to become YOU)
2. They can open accounts and destroy your credit
3. They can blackmail threaten to release true information on
personal health issues if not paid.
4. Treat Patients as you would want to be treated.
Mind Your only Business and focus on present tasks
Be mindful of patient’s possessions and not just their
tangible items. Example: Privacy, Dignity, Respect, personal
information, even the acknowledgement to others that they
are in the hospital.
Your actions can be devastation, although it may seem
harmless to you.
