The Confederation Bridge is a 12.9 kilometer long bridge that opened in 1997 linking Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. It is the longest bridge over ice covered water in the world and contains a 60 meter high navigation span to allow ship traffic to pass underneath.

The bridge rests on 62 piers, of which the 44 main piers are 250 m (820 ft) apart and is 11 m (36 ft) wide. The speed limit is 80 kph (50 mph). It takes about 10 minutes to cross.
