Computer engineering is a multidisciplinary field that combines electrical engineering and computer science. Computer engineers design both hardware and software systems, including microprocessors, personal computers, embedded systems, integrated circuits, and operating systems. The first computer engineering degree program was established in 1971. Computer engineering students study digital and analog circuit design as well as mathematics and science. Advanced degrees allow students to specialize in areas like VLSI chip engineering, digital circuits, and low-power system design.
