GRADE SYMBOLS AND NOTATIONS
Prior to September 1, 1996, the grading system used was A, B, C, D, F, P, IP, W,
R, S, T and U.
Subsequent to September 1, 1996 the grading system is:
CALENDAR
Credit earned prior to August 31, 1968 reflects semester hours pursued during a sixteen week
term.
Credit earned September 1, 1968 to August 31, 1975, reflects units pursued during a ten-week
term. One unit equals six quarter hours or four semester hours.
Credit earned September 1, 1975 to August 31, 1981, reflects units pursued during a ten-week
term. One unit equals five quarter hours or three and one-third semester hours.
Credit earned September 1, 1981 to August 31, 1987 reflects quarter hours pursued during a ten-
week term (summer term is less than ten weeks).
Beginning Fall Term 1987 through Summer Term 2011, Otterbein University followed a quarter
calendar but course credits are reflected in semester hours due to conversion.
Beginning August 29, 2011, Otterbein University converted to a semester calendar and all
subsequent credits reflect semester hours pursued during a fourteen-week term.
