A presentation I gave at Georgia Tech's GVU center in February 1999 regarding the first few months of WebMD.com after we launched in the fall of 1988.
My how things have changed since then. Enjoy!
Reviewing an old hard drive, I found the following abstract used to promote this speech...
"What does it take to get a web-based product delivered to tens of thousands of demanding professionals? What’s it like to convert a web-based development team’s thinking from the creation of a website as dynamic content to the development of a website as software? What’s it like to take a good product with live customers and transition them to a great product that is significantly revamped and enhanced? In this brown bag, the issues of re-architecting an existing website/online-service, including user interface enhancements, underlying systems architecture changes, and feature creep in a hyper-growth environment will be discussed. The presentation will center around the metaphor of websites as architectural structures, building on the presenter’s experience in the world of architecture and CAD.
If most of the companies on the Web work at 'Internet speed', it can be said that WebMD works at 'hospital triage speed'. Come hear how the team at WebMD redefining the concept of a vertical niche portal on the ‘net; as if their lives depend on it."

Accountants routinely get something of a bad rap. In Hollywood films, accountants are often regarded as synonymous with the words ‘dull’ or ‘humdrum’, but this is of course nonsense; one cannot be accurately defined by their job role alone, regardless of what it happens to be.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
