Therefore ancient civilizations were very unique and had their own different faults and achievements. For example, ancient Babylonia and ancient Greece are probably similar in many ways but also have differences, like in their religion or government. This is very much true for almost every civilization. Ancient Babylonia and ancient Greece have similarities and differences in other things, also, such as food, clothing, and housing.
Ancient Babylonia mainly depended on grains. Barley was their main crop. They used it for trade, and also they used it to feed themselves. They all ate melons and plums for fruit. Ancient Greece also cropped grains such as barley or wheat, but they depended on fish to feed themselves. Greeks drank plenty of wine, and ate plenty of bread for almost every meal.
Clothing in ancient Babylonia was often made from woven fabric, since they knew how to make cloth. They wore shoes and sandals made from leather, and many fabrics were brightly colored with natural dyes. On the other hand, ancient Greeks clothing was mainly made of wool or linen. They also wore leather shoes or sandals if they were not barefoot, but this was rare since Greek men lived most of their lives barefoot.
Ancient Babylonian houses were made out of sun-dried brick, and were strung down narrow, winding streets. The average house was small, and only one story. Underneath the house was a mausoleum, in which the family dead were buried. An ancient Greek home would usually have a statue called a herm at the entrance, which represented the messenger god, Hermes. Houses were made of stone or clay, and the house was planned around a courtyard. There was not much similar about Babylonian housing and Greek housing, although they both used reeds as covering on their roofs.
As you can see, there are many similarities to Babylonian and Greek living, as there as differences. Babylonians mainly ate grains, while Greeks ate fish. Ancient Babylonians knew how to make cloth, so their clothes were usually made from woven fabric, but Greeks clothing was made from wool or linen. Houses were also very different, Babylonian housing was made up from sun-dried brick, and was not too big, while Greek housing was made from stone or clay, and was built around a courtyard. There were also similarities to those topics, such as leather shoes, eating grains, and covering roofs with reeds. Again, all civilizations are unique and have their own way of doing things.
Works Cited:
Digon Site. N.p., n.d.
