Both the protagonist of Victorian novel " Tess of the D'urbervilles " and the movie "Maleficient" suffered in their life for being sexually harassed and the incident turned their life in a different way. However, the theme of sexual harassment in the both literary art is vivid.

3. Rape is a crime, a crime of not of
passion but of abuse of power. It is a
criminal means of suppression and
dominance. In the discussing topic,
both of the protagonist were raped
when they were sleeping.

5. TESS’S STRUGGLES
◦ In phase I chapter XI, Alec took advantage of Tess in the woods.
◦ He did not accept his child and did not marry her. He did not
realize his sin rather he blamed Tess for tempting him with her
beauty.
◦ She got back to her family, gave birth her child. She alone
baptized her child. She gave its name “Sorrow”. But her child
died very soon.

6. ◦Society criticized her for her scandal. Though she was
innocent, she was deprived of the right of being a
normal member of the society.
◦She could not get a job and struggled a lot because of
her poverty.
◦ she had to find a job outside the village.

7. ◦ Her husband Angel Clare left her knowing her past that she
was raped. He could not forgive her for this.
◦ Again Tess struggled. She had a difficult time finding work
and forced to take a job at an unpleasant and non
prosperous farm.

8. ◦ In course of events, Tess murdered Alec.
◦ She was sentenced to death.
◦ She did not get the justice for her oppression but her life
ends in a tragic way.

◦ She was betrayed by her lover.
◦ Her betrayal brought her to a place of darkness.
◦ She was not criticized by the society. Maleficent’s struggle
was more like internal struggle.

11. In conclusion, Alec is the downfall of Tess’s life. If he
did not harass her, she could lead a happy life. On
the other hand, if Maleficent was not harassed by her
lover, she could live with her inner peace. So, we can
see that sexual harassment has deeply impacted in
their life.
