• Cultural Barrier

• Gender Barrier

3. BARRIER:
An obstacle which prevents us from completing certain task .
Communication Barrier:
It is defined as the aspects or conditions that interfere with
effective
exchange of ideas and thoughts.

4. PHYSICAL BARRIER:
Physical barrier relates to the disturbance in the immediate
situation which can interface in the course of an effective
communication.
Factors:
• Defects in media
• Distraction in environment
• Distance
• Physical disability

5. PERCEPTUAL BARRIER:
• The most common problem is that the people have different
opinion, that is people develop their perception based on their
own background.
• The varied perception of every individual gives rise to a need
for effective communication.
Factors:
• Difference in understanding.
• Difference in perception.
• Difference in values , attitudes, opinions.

6. EMOTIONAL BARRIER:
The emotional state may influence your capacity to make your
self understand and hamper your understanding and others.
Factors:
• Fear/Insecurity
• Mistrust
• Stress

7. CULTURAL BARRIER:
The problem is that when a person gets adapted to particular
group’s culture, it gets difficult on his/her part to adjust with other
groups.
Factors:
• Language & accent
• Behaviour & nature
• Religion

8. LANGUAGE BARRIER:
Language that describe what a person wants to say may pose
barriers to others who are not familiar with those expression.
Factors:
• Multilanguage
• Region
• Inadequate vocabulary
• Interpreting difference

9. GENDER BARRIERS:
• This barriers arises because men and women separate needs and
they communicating according to their needs.
Factors:
• Fear & shy
• Environment
• Misunderstanding

10. INTERPERSONAL BARRIER:
• All individuals are unique as we have different personality, attitude,
values, knowledge etc.
• We react differently to different situation as our thinking varies.
Factors:
• Lack of trust
• Lack of transparency
• Lack of patience
• Lack of organizations

11. CONCLUSION:
• Communication barriers can be removed if the communicators are
aware of the existing barriers.
• Following strategies can help in reducing communication barriers:
1. Carrying a positive attitude while communicating.
2. Avoiding defensiveness as it interferes with communication.
3. Developing good communication skill.
4. Making communication goal oriented.
