The nursing assistant is an important part of the nursing care team. A nursing assistant is a person who, under the direction of a licensed
nurse, performs basic nursing and restorative services for patients and clients which involve: Safety, Comfort, Personal Hygiene, Basic
Mental Health, Protection of Patient Safety, Protection of Patient Rights, Observation and Reporting. This is a nursing assistant preparation
class. Students are required to take 210 hours of class over seven-weeks which includes: lecture, lab, and clinical work. Upon Successful
completion of this course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion, and will then be eligible to apply for state certification
by examination.
Admission Requirements:
Qualified applicants are expected to meet all admission criteria. Students with documented need for accommodation are to meet with the Disability Resources Center.
1. Students must not have committed a felony/misdemeanor within the past seven years.
2. It is recommended that they have a high school diploma or GED but it is not required.
3. Students must be 16 years of age or older.
4. Students must be in good physical health.
5. Students must be able to read and write English at an 8th grade level (Free testing may be required)
6. Students must have basic computer knowledge.
7. Students must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
8. Students must have good moral character.
9. Students are required to attend a mandatory orientation prior to the start date of the class.
10. Students are required to show proof of current American Heart Assoc. Healthcare Provider CPR Certification Card.
11. Students are required to show proof of a negative drug test prior to the first scheduled clinical experience.
12. Students are required to show proof of a negative 2-Step TB Skin test prior to the first scheduled clinical experience.
13. Students are required to show proof of completion of a physical examination. (Physical check sheet will be supplied).
14. Students are required to show proof of medical insurance that covers illness/accidents. THIS IS STUDENT’S FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
15. Students are required to purchase a watch with a second hand. THIS IS STUDENT’S FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
