Women in the 1800s wore extremely tight dresses that were difficult to breathe in, along with clogs to keep their feet clean while traveling. They also wore hoop skirts around their waists to appear thin. Girls typically wore hats symbolizing faith, long shirts, and aprons to protect their skirts. Boys often wore hats to block the sun and waistcoats over shirts for warmth, along with breeches and wool stockings from age six.
