This document outlines classroom activities exploring WIDA and CELLA assessments for English learners. Students are instructed to review features of No Child Left Behind legislation aiming to close achievement gaps through accountability, flexibility, and choice. They analyze how issues like cultural and linguistic bias, testing in two languages, and special education needs affect English learners. Students also learn about WIDA standards and assessment tools, and how knowledge of assessment needs influences instruction for ELs. Finally, they explore connections between WIDA and Florida English Language Proficiency standards, and implications of standardized versus performance-based assessment for ELs based on information from the CELLA website.
