Clarice, an 11 year-old girl, was eating her school dinner one lunchtime. She was eating beans, a
peanut cookie, and beef sausages. Halfway through her meal her lips and mouth turned blue and
she had difficulty breathing. An ambulance was called and she collapsed and went into shock.
The ambulance rushed her to the emergency room, but she died soon after arrival. What is the
ailment that most likely killed the patient? What type of immune dysfunction does it indicate?
What is the mechanism of action of that immune dysfunction? What treatment could have saved
her life if administered in a timely manner?
