Description
The “DPS” engine features different upgrades :
– 4 valves per cylinder.
– A common rail injection system with a high pressure
pump by “Denso”.
– A variable geometry turbocharger.
– An EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation) with an
exhaust gas cooler.
– A new electronic unit managing the engine and its
peripherals.

List of checks
The purpose of this procedure is to check a number of points before and after dynamometer testing. It is suited to engines
with electronic control (TIER III).
Failure to carry out these tests may lead to an incorrect power reading.
Always check the following points before starting a PTO power test.
Reminder : Wait until the running-in period has elapsed (minimum 100 hours) before testing an engine on the
dynamometer. This period is necessary to ensure that measurements are carried out under suitable conditions.
1. Visual checks
Make sure that the supply and return lines are correctly
fitted (not trapped or kinked on installation, etc.). Check
that the engine serial n° read with Métadiag is the same
as the one indicated on the engine identification plate and
if there are any error codes.
2. Engine oil level
Check the fluid level with dipstick (1) :
I Normal operating level.
II Top up as soon as possible.
III Top up before restarting the engine.

4. Battery
Check the voltage with the engine stopped (between 12 and 13 V). Alternator-generated power consumption can reach
1,5 kW.
5. Radiators/coolers
Check that all radiators/coolers are clean.
3. Hydraulic /transmission oil level
Check the fluid level with dipstick (2).
I Minimum level.
II Normal operating level.
III Maximum level.
IV Super maximum (case of hydraulic tools requiring a
significant outflow of fluid).
A level above the normal operating level affects engine
power and increases temperature. Example : Overfilling
will significantly affect performance during high speed
road operation.

8. Turbocharger pressure
Note : The supercharging pressure of the turbocharger cannot be controlled precisely on TIER III engines with the
variable geometry turbo
– Connect Métadiag© and check the intake temperatures and pressure.
9. Checking the hydraulic pressure
Check the hydraulic pressure while referring to the hydraulic pressure checks in this chapter. Make sure that no hydraulic
application is running. If hydraulic pressure is not within the specifications, the PTO power test results will be affected.

Before starting the test, ensure that :
– The rig is correctly adjusted and calibrated.
– The CV joint is aligned, attached and protected.
– The tractor is chocked.

To limit transmission power take-off, make sure that : The reverser and the transmission are in neutral (See chapter "E" of

12. Air conditioning/Ventilation
Ensure that the air conditioning and ventilation are switched off.
13. Front power take-off
Make sure that the front power take-off is disengaged.
14. Viscous fan coupling
To obtain the best possible measurement, the viscocoupler must not be locked. In addition, to ensure minimum slipping of
the viscocoupler, perform the measurements with an ambient temperature of 35°C.
15. Check the maximum no-load rpm
2 325 ± 10 rpm.
16. Engage the PTO at the 1 000 rpm position
17. Run the engine at half load until the operating temperature is reached
Coolant temperature : 80-90 °C.
Transmission temperature : 60-65 °C.
18. Accelerate the engine to maximum rpm for 1 min
19. Measure the power (see injector instruction sheet)
20. After measuring, check the tractor temperature
Coolant temperature : 80-90 °C.
Transmission temperature : 60-65 °C.
21. Leave the engine running at between 1 500 and 1 600 rpm for 3 to 5 minutes, then idle before
switching off
If the results do not match the manufacturer's data following these operations, a flowmeter will need to be installed and the
values compared to the injection sheets.

The crankshaft position sensor "B231" indicates the
engine's rotation speed, as well as the precise crankshaft
position (TDC of cylinders 1 and 6). This signal is hence
used by engine speed and advance management.
The timing position signal "B232" specifies which cylinder,
1 or 6, is at end compression TDC to synchronize injection
with timing.
If the signal transmitted by "B231" is absent, the signal
transmitted by "B232" is used to manage engine speed.
As the crankshaft position information is inaccurate, a
power reduction is indicated.

  • 32. Arion 640-510 – 06.2008 – GB A1.7 Injector instruction sheets List of checks The purpose of this procedure is to check a number of points before and after dynamometer testing. It is suited to engines with electronic control (TIER III). Failure to carry out these tests may lead to an incorrect power reading. Always check the following points before starting a PTO power test. Reminder : Wait until the running-in period has elapsed (minimum 100 hours) before testing an engine on the dynamometer. This period is necessary to ensure that measurements are carried out under suitable conditions. 1. Visual checks Make sure that the supply and return lines are correctly fitted (not trapped or kinked on installation, etc.). Check that the engine serial n° read with Métadiag is the same as the one indicated on the engine identification plate and if there are any error codes. 2. Engine oil level Check the fluid level with dipstick (1) : I Normal operating level. II Top up as soon as possible. III Top up before restarting the engine. 111msn07 Fig. 1 1 l ll lll

Alternator-generated power consumption can reach 1,5 kW. 5. Radiators/coolers Check that all radiators/coolers are clean. 3. Hydraulic /transmission oil level Check the fluid level with dipstick (2). I Minimum level. II Normal operating level. III Maximum level. IV Super maximum (case of hydraulic tools requiring a significant outflow of fluid). A level above the normal operating level affects engine power and increases temperature. Turbocharger pressure Note : The supercharging pressure of the turbocharger cannot be controlled precisely on TIER III engines with the variable geometry turbo – Connect Métadiag© and check the intake temperatures and pressure. 9. Checking the hydraulic pressure Check the hydraulic pressure while referring to the hydraulic pressure checks in this chapter. Make sure that no hydraulic application is running. If hydraulic pressure is not within the specifications, the PTO power test results will be affected. 10. Fit the dynamometer Before starting the test, ensure that : – The rig is correctly adjusted and calibrated. – The CV joint is aligned, attached and protected. – The tractor is chocked. 002msm01 Fig. 6 11. Heaxshift/transmission reverser position (according to equipment) To limit transmission power take-off, make sure that : The reverser and the transmission are in neutral (See chapter "E" of the user's manual). Position the tractor in an open area.

Front power take-off Make sure that the front power take-off is disengaged. 14. Viscous fan coupling To obtain the best possible measurement, the viscocoupler must not be locked. In addition, to ensure minimum slipping of the viscocoupler, perform the measurements with an ambient temperature of 35°C. 15. Check the maximum no-load rpm 2 325 ± 10 rpm. 16. Engage the PTO at the 1 000 rpm position 17. Run the engine at half load until the operating temperature is reached Coolant temperature : 80-90 °C. Transmission temperature : 60-65 °C. 18. Accelerate the engine to maximum rpm for 1 min 19. Measure the power (see injector instruction sheet) 20. After measuring, check the tractor temperature Coolant temperature : 80-90 °C. Transmission temperature : 60-65 °C. 21. Leave the engine running at between 1 500 and 1 600 rpm for 3 to 5 minutes, then idle before switching off If the results do not match the manufacturer's data following these operations, a flowmeter will need to be installed and the values compared to the injection sheets.

This signal is hence used by engine speed and advance management. The timing position signal "B232" specifies which cylinder, 1 or 6, is at end compression TDC to synchronize injection with timing. If the signal transmitted by "B231" is absent, the signal transmitted by "B232" is used to manage engine speed. As the crankshaft position information is inaccurate, a power reduction is indicated.
