MUHAMMAD YUNUS
Introduction

 Mr Muhammad Yunus was one of 14 children
 His father was a goldsmith, who encouraged him to
  seek higher education
 He was inspired to helping the poor by:
    His mother, who was always helping them herself,
    A poor woman he met later on in life and her plight

 Later in life he became a professor teaching economy
  at Bangladesh’s Chittagong University.
 He founded the Grameen Bank, meaning “village
  bank”.
    The bank became very successful due to its policies and low
     interest rates.
 Became a renown philanthropist.
 Won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

• Mr Muhummad, a Bangladeshi economist, met a woman
  during a field trip.
• This woman was:
  •   Poor
  •   Hardly earning and income
  •   In great need of fair loans
  •   She required opportunities to raise herself above subsistence level

• An inspired Mr Muhummad went on to set up the Grameen
    Bank:
•   Founded on principles of trust and solidarity
•   Today, it serves 8.29 million borrowers in 81367 villages
•   It has expanded to 2564 branches in Bangladesh alone
•   Other countries are now also using this system of loaning.
•   Led to Mr Muhummad wining the Nobel Peace Prize in
    2006
