CIRCUMCISION
DEFINITION
Circumcision, also knownas excision of the foreskin,
peritomy or postectomy, is a surgery option that involves
removing the foreskin (the skin fold that covers the glans
penis).
3.
WHAT IS ITFOR
Circumcision surgery is basically done to separate the
foreskin from the glans. In practice, it removes the loose
skin that covers the “head” of the penis, so that it can be
exposed without difficulty. Experts explain that this
excess skin acts as a reservoir for microorganisms that
are harmful to health.

CIRCUMCISION RECOVERY
Recovery isusually quick, with healing generally
occurring within 7 days. The patient usually
resumes normal activities after 10 to 15 days.
Recovery time, expected to last 10 to 15 days,
varies from person to person.

CIRCUMCISION BEFORE ANDAFTER
The postoperative period after circumcision is usually short
and simple. Hospitalization is generally just one day –
outpatient surgery – or with an overnight stay in the case of
babies and young children.
Pain after circumcision is mild and easily controlled with
oral analgesia. In most cases, it is possible to relieve pain
easily through the administration of oral analgesic
medications (e.g. paracetamol or ibuprofen) or in the form
of an ointment.
