Defining the Nearly Zero Energy Building – Best practice brochure for municip...MARIA SFYRAKI &ASSOCIATES
5 May 2015. A newly released guideline detailing best practice in low energy building for municipalities has just been released via the EU-funded project known as PassREg. The brochure details inspiring examples from across Europe and provides compelling measures that municipalities can implement for their building sectors. This small book shows how ‘energy efficiency first’ complemented by renewables makes for an ideal approach, not only for municipal energy action planning and in answer to the EU’s call for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) but also in terms of affordability. All examples detailed are based on the Passive House Standard, an energy standard increasingly being implemented by municipalities worldwide as the basis for achieving extreme energy savings and emissions reductions in the building sector.
New ideas and trends keep hitting the market. And as a homeowner, it is always good to be aware of these design trends. Here are some latest trends in the renovation industry that are going to rule in 2021

How can you design or retrofit your building to be net zero energy? What are the steps and what does it cost to get to net zero compared to standard construction? When you design commercial buildings that are super insulated, have very tight envelopes and use energy recovery ventilation, then you can add solar PV to generate power on site and reach for net zero.

ECO-FRIENDLY INNOVATIONS SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION .pdfpulisconstructionsau1
In recent years, the construction industry has undergone a paradigm shift towards sustainability, driven by a growing awareness of environmental issues and the need for responsible business practices. Commercial construction, in particular, has embraced eco-friendly innovations to minimize its ecological footprint. This blog explores the latest trends and technologies that are fostering sustainable practices in commercial construction projects............
Green Buildings support efforts to address climate risks and impact positively the people who inhabit them. But what’s stopping us from capturing their full potential? Read more in our blog!
Green construction or sustainable building refers to both a structure and the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.
Green building, or sustainable design, is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and of reducing impacts on human health and the environment for the entire lifecycle of a building. Green-building concepts extend beyond the walls of buildings and include site planning, community and land-use planning issues as well.
The growth and development of our communities have a large impact on our natural environment. The manufacturing, design, construction, and operation of the buildings in which we live and work are responsible for the consumption of many of our natural resources.

Circular Sustainability
MATERIALS
The design of Green Solution House is based on
several parameters to show a holistic approach to
sustainability. The building is certified to the standards
of the recognised German Sustainable Building
Council (DGNB), based on the criteria of the Active
House vision and inspired by the Cradle to Cradle life
cycle concept. The building and landscape present the
latest developments in the field of sustainable
architecture; we show that sustainability involves more
than aspiring to green certification, and that it is
possible to quantify our project’s high quality on the
basis of several parameters.

We developed criteria to select materials, prioritizing
certifications and environmental labels, recyclability,
social responsibility, use of resources, safety of
compounds, and energy in production, to name a few. As
a result all materials chosen have been documented to
parts per million to secure a healthy indoor climate. Also
a number of intelligent materials are used that captures
dust particles and clean the air for formaldehyde and
other harmful compounds. Locally sourced options take

On-Site Energy Production
ENERGY
At Green Solution House we produce energy. Solar
cells generate electricity and our on-site pyrolysis plant
converts organic waste to electricity and heat. Hot
water comes from a solar thermal plant integrated into
the landscape. We converted our 30 year old
swimming pool into a thermal energy storage system.
To keep an eye on operations, we display our energy
consumption and on-site production with a custom
visualisation and any excess energy is sold back to the
Bornholm grid.
