- Chubby is a lock service that provides coarse-grained locking and reliable storage for loosely-coupled distributed systems. It aims for high availability and reliability over performance. - Chubby uses the Paxos consensus protocol to elect a master replica. The master handles read and write requests while replicating updates to other replicas. This allows services to synchronize activities and agree on basic information. - Chubby's interface is similar to a file system with locks. It stores metadata and is used by services for tasks like electing leaders and partitioning work. This centralized service improves on ad hoc coordination methods.
