Presented to Northeast Ohio Usability Professionals' Association (NEOUPA) on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Cleveland Clinic.
Two main themes in the presentation:
1. Tailor UX study to get stakeholder buy-in, in the unique corporate culture of Cleveland Clinic.
2. We invented our own methods to extract insights from quantitative open card sort to establish corporate-wide standard sitemap.
First, the new methods contribute to determine navigation menu naming convention and cross-reference points.
Secondly, I'd like to propose the UX & HCI community to include "Cell Plot Analysis" as a new statistical analysis when analyzing quantitative open card sorts.
I have not seen any of the above mentioned in prior literature before.
Feedback welcome.
The next appearance of this presentation will be UPA's International Conference in June 2012.
New Methods to Analyze Large Open Card Sort: UX Study Designed to Maximize Co...Kaitlan Chu

Coming to an Understanding: a Cross-institutional Examination of Assessments ...Stephanie Wright
Data curation has emerged as a strategic growth area for academic libraries. Many libraries have conducted needs assessments as a precursor towards developing services; however there have been few comparisons of the findings across institutions. This panel brings together four librarians from different institutions to discuss both common and distinct findings from their respective needs assessments. The panelists will speculate on the application of these findings at their specific libraries and in academic libraries generally.
Knowledge Management in Healthcare AnalyticsGregory Nelson
The promise of actionable analytics in healthcare poses an inherent challenge as we seek to accelerate the time it takes to go from question to insight to action. The velocity of change, the demand for bigger data, the allure of advanced algorithms, the need for deeper insights, and the cost of inaction make knowledge capture and reuse an all too allusive goal.
In an evolving environment, healthcare organizations need to find ways to make greater use of prior investments in analytics products by reusing the commonalities of proven designs, metadata, business rules, captured learnings, and collaborative insights and applying them to future analytics products. By doing so in a strategic manner, they will be able to create rapid and efficient analytics processes and better manage time to value and reuse.
In this presentation, authors from two very different health systems with two very different patient populations will share their perspectives of the value of knowledge management and discuss the role of analytics in driving towards a learning health system. The authors will highlight opportunities and challenges using examples across clinical, financial, and operational domains.
Data visualization has become increasingly more important and sits at the center of how people learn about and experience the world. We process information about politics, business insights and every day decisions through “visual soundbites”. As data journalists, we have incredible power to both positively influence as well as misguide conversations with the choices that we make when presenting graphical results.
In this presentation, we will share some of the best practices that help deliver stories that matter and avoid creating those that mislead.

This panel presents new views of what assessment can be and new species of big data that push our understanding for what can be used in evidentiary arguments.
Marcia Linn, Lydia Liu from UC Berkeley and ETS discuss continuous assessment of science and new kinds of constructs that relate to collaboration and student reasoning.
John Byrnes from SRI International discusses text and other semi-structured data sources and different methods of analysis.
Kristin Dicerbo from Pearson discusses hidden assessments and the different student interactions and events that can be used in inferential processes.
Panel 2: The Test is Just the Beginning: Assessments Meet Systems Context
This panel looks at how assessments are not the end game, but often the first step in larger big-data practices at districts/state/national levels.
Gerald Tindal from the University of Oregon discusses State data systems and special education, including curriculum-based measurement across geographic settings.
Jack Buckley Commissioner of the National Center for Educational Statistics discussing national datasets where tests and other data connect.

DIY ERM (Do-It-Yourself Electronic Resources Management) for the Small LibraryNASIG
Are you a lone electronic resources librarian at a small institution? Are you unable to implement an electronic resource management (ERM) system due to lack of financial or technical resources? Is your administrative information for e-resource subscriptions still recorded in a variety of physical print-outs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, staff wiki pages, etc., and you would like to organize it in one central location? Then this is the session for you! This program will describe the presenter's step-by-step approach to creating a homegrown electronic resources management (ERM) system using Microsoft Access 2010. The topics covered will include use-case analysis, data analysis, card sorting for database design, tables and relationships in databases, and how to use forms in Access to make the ERM database user-friendly. The presenter will also refer to free, online Access 2010 documentation that was referenced in the creation of her local ERM system. Presenter: Sarah Hartman-Caverly

Crowdsourcing Approaches to Big Data Curation - Rio Big Data MeetupEdward Curry
Data management efforts such as Master Data Management and Data Curation are a popular approach for high quality enterprise data. However, Data Curation can be heavily centralised and labour intensive, where the cost and effort can become prohibitively high. The concentration of data management and stewardship onto a few highly skilled individuals, like developers and data experts, can be a significant bottleneck. This talk explores how to effectively involving a wider community of users within big data management activities. The bottom-up approach of involving crowds in the creation and management of data has been demonstrated by projects like Freebase, Wikipedia, and DBpedia. The talk discusses how crowdsourcing data management techniques can be applied within an enterprise context.
Topics covered include:
- Data Quality And Data Curation
- Crowdsourcing
- Case Studies on Crowdsourced Data Curation
- Setting up a Crowdsourced Data Curation Process
- Linked Open Data Example
- Future Research Challenges

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.
