Slides from the January 2014 meeting of the Benedictine Oblates of St Scholastica Monastery in Duluth, Minnesota. Part of the year-long theme of Benedictine Virtures.
This is a collection of writings about love letters from the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the Person of the Godhead that writes these letters.
ARE YOU FRUSTRATED BY WHAT YOU CAN'T SEEM TO CHANGE? EVER WONDER WHY YOU STILL FEEL THE SAME THINGS YOU DID BEFORE YOU CAME TO JESUS? MANY ARE AND TOO OFTEN THE MESSAGE IS THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU! DON'T BELIEVE THAT ANY LONGER. READ THE TRUTH.
God teaches us in the bible how we should love. However, we know that NOT all people believe in the bible or choose to obey his laws. If everyone in this world obeyed the 2nd great commandment, that is, to love thy neighbor as thyself....there would be no hate or violence in this world. Nor would we have sodomy because a romantic relationship between two individuals of the same-gender is NOT considered love in the eyes of God. He considers it an abomination, a sin. We must learn to love not according to the desires of our flesh but according to the laws of God.

Homily: 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time A 2023.docxJames Knipper
Biblical scholars tell us that this Parable of the Ten Virgins was likely cobbled together from a few sources meant to drive home the message of always being prepared – a Gospel theme we will hear often between now and Christmas. But was does that mean to you and me? What does being prepared look like? And tapping into one of today’s Gospel metaphors, what is the oil that we need to be placing in our lamps? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
2. The bridge diagram is widely used to aid in leading someone to Christ. It is
based off of Romans 6:23 which says “ For the wages of sin is death, but the
gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus.” You can lead someone
through this diagram using the steps provided.
DECISION
3. Step 1: What do you think of when you hear the words “wage”, “sin”, and “death”? A
“wage” is something that is earned or something that you can work for. “Sin” is used in
archery as a term to describe everything outside of the bulls eye. So you can look at it like
God is the center and perfection, so everything that isn’t perfect is sin. “Death” is typically
associated with what happens when you leave this earth, but there can also be a spiritual
death. This is current or eternal separation from Christ.
Step 2: What do you think of when you hear “gift”, “God”, and “eternal life”? A “gift” is
something freely given to you that you can either accept or reject. “God” has many words
that describe Him such as loving, just, and holy. Loving means He loves you for who you
are and He is patient with all of your decisions. Just means God is the ultimate judge and is
righteous in all of his decisions. Holy means set apart, and as sinners we cannot be in his
presence. “Eternal life” is life spent with Christ and can begin now.
Step 3: If man and sin are on one side of a chasm and God is on the other, where would
you put yourself? The only way to get to the other side is through Jesus Christ. By nature all
men are sinful and because of the holiness of God, cannot be with Him. However Jesus
Christ died on a cross for our sin to bridge the gap between us and God.
Step 4: A part of enjoying life through Christ is repentance and making Him lord of your
life. Repent is a military term that means to turn 180 degrees and walk in the opposite
direction. If you repent of your sin this means you walk away completely from it. Making
Christ lord of your life means that you are seeking Him in every decision you make and
want to live a life pleasing to Him.
Step 5: The last thing to do is decide if you want to accept Christ into your heart, if so all
you have to do is ask. You don’t have to be perfect or have your life together to become a
Christian, you just have to want to be like Jesus.
4. A huge part of my Christian walk has been my worship
through dancing. I will never forget the first time that I
was able to fully let go and dance with Jesus. I was at
my church during one of the Sunday services and a man
was singing a song that he had written. I was sitting in
the pew with my eyes closed letting the words just wash
over me when I felt something tell me to get up and
dance. I wanted to fight it because I didn’t even know
the song and I wasn’t prepared to dance in front of the
whole church. The longer I sat there the more I felt this
tugging at my heart, so finally I got up and just let God
take over. I don’t really remember the exact steps I did
or what was going on around me, I was just focused on
worshiping my Creator. During those moments I had
never felt more alive and filled with joy. When the song
was over I calmly walked back to my seat and just sat in
the presence of the Lord. People around me had tears
in their eyes and told me how beautiful what I had done
was, but none of that mattered to me; I was in a world
of my own. I have had many more times like this one,
but I will never forget feeling like I was dancing with
Jesus that first time.
WORSHIP
5. Beauty hanging on a tree
I come and bow on bended knee
Your arms stretched wide in love
How can this come from God, above
I trust and know it is His plan
But I am just a simple man
How do I deserve this gift
Forgive me Lord for when I drift
FORGIVENESS
6. My sweet child,
Do not fret about the logistics of our relationship. Your desire will grow with
time as you grow in simply spending time with me. You fear that you are not
intelligent enough to comprehend beyond the surface, but you are! I created
that mind of yours to be filled with intelligence, you just need to recognize
your fears and give them to me. You also like to put me in a box, especially
our time. I long to spend every moment with you, not just when you are
reading my Word. Open up yourself to fully experience the love I have for
you. You say you want more of me, but can you make time for more? You
have nothing to prove or any expectation to meet, just kneel before me and
get ready to experience my love like never before.
With all my love,
Your Heavenly Father
DESIRE
7. Being a Christian is much more than a list of rules and an attitude of
judgment. Many people view Christians as very prideful, and I'll be the first to
admit, we are. However, isn't everyone to a degree? We all have our things we
struggle with and Christians are no different. I also think there are different
types of "Christians“, there are those who place themselves above others and
then those who put others above themselves. The latter, in my opinion, are the
true followers of Christ because that is what we were called to do from the
very beginning. I am not saying that we get it right all the time, I know I fail
often at being selfless and I can be very prideful, but the point I want to make
is that being a Christian is something of which I am proud to be called. This is
why Christians come across in a pompous way, we are very proud of who we
are in Christ and just have a passion for others to join us on the amazing
journey we know God has planned for every individual.
