4) Key Achievements
Strong technical competence in the mechanical design of industrial machines developed over 20 years of
experience in electro-mechanical design of advanced industrial robotics, flexible manufacturing systems and
structural test jigs, covering all stages of the product development. I worked on mechanism kinematics,
dynamics and simulation of robotic applications for industrial clients (Automatica Bucharest, Dacia Pitesti) and I
implemented topological optimization by Finite Element Analysis of robotic structures using ANSYS. I was part
of a team of 20 people, involved in validating the FE models against the actual structures and developing the
optimal design solution of the product. I also performed static linear and modal analysis of the structures and
developed parametric FE models, and structural dynamic response testing coupled to a Labview acquisition
board. I designed and calculated power actuation systems with electric, hydraulic or pneumatic actuation.
I used tools such as Solidworks, AutoCAD and Catia V5 to design the parts and import them into FEM analysis.
I complied with the safety procedures on sites as well as safety user regulations for testing equipments.
I have acquired extensive experience in structural analysis of metallic and hybrid aircraft structures while
working on clearing concessions for Airbus products over a 8 year period. During this time I collaborated with
manufacturing specialists and project managers to ensure the required level of support of deliveries to the
assembly lines while producing the optimal level of repair. I provided technical support for the repairs of major
aircraft components such as wing box ribs, gear boxes, wing covers, flight control surfaces (slats, flaps and
ailerons) and I acted as liason between the concessions office and the manufacturing department. I requested
non-destructive tests to determine defects in the non-conforming components as well as conductivity tests for
material porosities. I approved and delivered stress reports for over a thousand concessions, on all commercial
and military aircraft structures produced at Airbus UK, in Filton. I am used to working under pressure (e.g. stress
report of 80 pages for non-conforming wing box ribs delivered in two days) and dealing successfully with
difficult situations. I use an effective approach based on engineering judgement and approved analysis methods
while meeting the deadlines required by the manufacturing programme. This resulted in significant savings for
the business in terms of providing the level of flexibility for achieving the repair schedule in time and to the
required quality. I rejected parts, approximately 150 metallic and 50 composites, when proved not compliant
with the acceptable stress criteria.
I supported successfully the A380 certification team in the pre-certification phase providing static stress analysis
of various aircraft components to optimize the design and meet the certification requirements. I pre-checked
2. certification static stress reports and identified improvements required to analyses conducted by external
suppliers. I compiled the checksheets which were then approved by the authorized stress signatory. I worked
with all stress signatories on the A380 aircraft project and I was put forward, in under 2 months, for stress
signatory delegation based on the quality of work provided.
I conducted all my work in full compliance with the airworthiness requirements applicable for the safe
operation of the structures involved. I evaluated the impact of increased static and flight loading conditions on
Airbus A380, calculating load exceedances and reserve factors on wingbox ribs, using all the safety factors and
observing the safety margins prescribed by the relevant regulations. Some examples fo the work carried out:
o I compiled a non-standard stress methodology to validate FEA and build parametric FE models.
o I calculated by hand the strength of the track rollers double supported shaft attachments based on
maximum enforced displacements on cycle. This was compared with the FEA and shown to match within
2%. I then developed a spreadsheet to dimension bolts on similar applications.
o I developed a non-standard stress analysis methodology for the closing rib – flap roller when load
exceedance was too high and my solution was selected for the justification of the design modification.
I provided training to Airbus intern students and young engineers, while working for the A400M team to share
best practice in order to speed up the concessions process. I developed excellent inter-personal skills with
manufacturing, design and stress engineers and built up a good reputation on site at Airbus Filton.
As a Solidworks trainer I coached and delivered training for various industry customers in the electrotechnical,
hydraulic actuation and equipments as well as the automotive industry. I dealt with technical managers and
planned the training to suit the customers’ requirements. I trained 30 people in one year.
