Prescott Sixth Street Redevelopment
Project Description
The Ecosa students have been asked by a council member of the City of Prescott to create a vibrant new "urban" component in the downtown area of Prescott that will enhance the visitor experience and bring a new economic hub into the core of the city.
In broad terms, the client's vision is:
To create an area near downtown Prescott that will act as a hub for a variety of outdoor activities including biking and hiking, and help develop awareness of the outdoor opportunities available in Prescott. To enhance Granite creek that bisects the site and explore possibilities for an interface between commercial, housing, retail spaces, and nature. To create a walkable neigborhood with multi-modal transit throughout. To explore planning strategies to create a lively area that can complement the downtown and bring additional revenues into the city. To anchor the development with small retail stores and avoid any “big box” retail in the area.
The client hopes to create an identifiable neighborhood that potentially includes a main street/corridor for mixed uses, including small retail with residential and/or commercial above. The City of Prescott is repositioning its marketing program to emphasize the natural resources in the area, such as walking and biking trails and the natural beauty surrounding the area. This redevelopment project should tie into this aspect of Prescott and make the Granite Creek area the hub for biking and walking to other areas in the trail system.
Site Assessment
Located in the heart of Prescott, Arizona, this project is approximately 140 acres in extent. It is bounded by North Montezuma Street on the West, the Yavapai tribal lands on the East and East Merritt Street on the North. The southern boundary is the property line of businesses that are accessed from EZ Street or from North Mount Vernon Street. The Albertsons shopping center and the Springhill suites define the South East corner.
Currently most of this area is industrial and many of these buildings are vacant and the land in the area is not well utilized. The existing infrastucture of roads was to be maintained, however, simple modifications can be made such as median strips, sidewalks and bike lanes.
Granite creek bisects this area and is a highly under utilized resource. There is a great opportunity to enhance this whole redevelopment by expanding and acknowledging the creek as a superb resource for any redevelopment.
Culture, Environment, Economy
Students researched into both the social, economic and natural systems of the area. Students developed an understanding of the whole area, not only its history and the current human impact, but also the climate flows; air, water, vegetation, fauna, people, and traffic in all parts of this area.

27. The $400 million project will feature a double-glass ex-
terior skin that will allow fresh air to circulate through-
out. Other environmentally friendly features previously
disclosed include a state-of-the-art geothermal heating
and cooling system, which will reduce the amount of
water used, and large amounts of natural sunlight
would cut energy costs.
36. RETAIL
Joining the two lakes, the shopping street is
fashioned after a river that scores and cuts the
landscape, exposing rock and a natural, curving
passage.
On either side, the stores hum with life, while
the sky above brings light and a natural sense of
openness to the environment. At its center, a plaza
and a tributary lead the visitor to the cinema,
providing a focus and center to the public space.
37. The retail environment is rich, diverse,
and of very considerable scale. It
combines a number of significant anchor
stores with boutiques, restaurants, and
extensive food court, and a Cineplex.
38. THE MULTIPLEX
The cinema is a portal into a magical
world. Fashioned from a rock-like solid
form, it is cut to expose a brightly
lit interior that promises to inspire and
entertain.
A large courtyard connects the cinema to
shopping, with views from one to another,
Encouraging the visitor to explore and
enjoy. Entertainment and a luxurious
lifestyle are at the heart of the Mantri
Agara complex, and the Cineplex offers
both, with a variety of complementary
cinematic experiences, and a retail
component that makes this building a
focus for visitors.
The extensive glass facade invites
the visitor the Cineplex to, and
makes this a place to see and be seen.

various buildings and program elements
of the site.
40. THE 5-STAR HYATT REGENCY
India is home to the greatest mountains
in the world. The fivestar hotel expresses
the soaring height of the mountain, with
a plunging waterfall that brings light and
excitement to the building.
A bridge across the very top reflects the
role of the Mantri Agara Koramangala
project in creating a new environment for
economic development and a 21st century
lifestyle.
42. THE SEZ
The Special Economic Zone, like all
aspects of the conceptual design for
Mantri Agara, is built on an appreciation
of nature. The primary expression is
that of the forest, with the lines of trees
rising along the facades, filtering light,
and creating a gently varying texture
across the expanse of the SEZ.
The density of the tree pattern changes
from high density on the most important
facades, to a lower level of intensity
on less visible facades, with a positive
impact on cost, while increasing the
variation and interest of the facades.
43. Design studies of prototypes for office
buildings using local materials and
in response to the climatological
considerations. Passive solar design ideas
such as large overhangs and recessed
windows were studied.
44. THE RESIDENTIAL
Land and water meet: the intersection
of the elements that sustain life.
The ideal location for a sophisticated
residential development offering
unparalleled views, with easy access to
shopping, the business park, and
transportation throughout Bangalore.
Set at the water’s edge, the
residential development accommodates
a wide range of lifestyles from the
compact to the luxurious.
45. The residential towers with the lake view
and the terraced balconies allowing for
ample view from most units.
63. Below right: The four level basement includes
parking, mechanical building systems and the
retail component.
Below left: The retail level (B1) is directly acces-
sible from the tower and can also be accessed
from a retail podium which is wrapped by a
bicycle ramp.
Left: Conceptual sketches for a two-level res-
taurant building.
64. The skin of the residential building was primar-
ily designed to take advantage of the view of the
Haihe River. Concealing the air-conditioning
units located on the façade required that a lou-
vered or perforated element be integrated into
the skin. The curtainwall module are based on
the speculative residential units and accommo-
date various floor plan configurations.
68. Tianjin Global Financial Center’s structural
framework is uniquely slender for a region with
high wind loads. Tubular steel columns filled
with high-strength concrete support the tower,
while its tapered form incorporates steel plate
shear walls, adapted from recent advance-
ments in shipbuilding technology. The innovative
application of steel plate shear walls reduced
material usage by 20 to 25 percent over more
conventional structural steel systems.
104. As an edifice of the marsh, the complex of buildings
acts as a mouthpiece through which the marsh can
communicate to the people of Los Angeles. The Nature
Center is a platform for the “Friends of the Madrona
Marsh” to educate people about the significance of
conservation; a place to pay homage to the land. The
Nature Center represents the various facets of the
marsh.
