Language diversity originated from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, where God confounded human languages and scattered people after they tried to build a tower to reach the heavens. Today, being multilingual is desirable for companies operating internationally. While learning a new language is easier now than ever before with various programs, the best way to truly learn is through immersion and daily use over an extended period of time.
As part of Biblefresh and celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, Wycliffe Bible Translators have been running a series of Bible classes called Understanding the Scriptures. Each class is taught by someone with experince of Bible translation and provides an introduction to a theological subject.
The seventh in our series, the September class, was taken by Eddie Arthur. Eddie is the executive director of Wycliffe Bible Translators and spoke on how other cultures read the Bible.
Luke and Laura Warrington are missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators living in Papua New Guinea. They recently completed the Pacific Orientation Course to prepare for life in the tropics. They will soon move to the village of Bamaro to practice their language and culture skills and consolidate their learning of Tok Pisin. In Bamaro, they will experience daily life without modern conveniences and learn to move at a slower, more communal pace. Their goals are to improve their language skills to prepare for future village work translating the Bible into local languages.
This document provides tips for helping customers choose the right Bible type. It discusses that choosing a Bible can be confusing for customers due to the variety of options. It recommends asking two questions: who the Bible is for and how it will be used. The document then outlines the four main Bible types - text, study, devotional, and specialty Bibles - and describes the key differences between each. It emphasizes understanding customer needs to guide them to the best fitting Bible.
Bible translation in today's world part 2 2-4-15 p pt slides orgWalt Hamilton
The document discusses the history of Bible translation, current status, and future directions. It covers:
- The Bible's dual authorship by God and human writers in original languages of Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic.
- Key moments in Bible translation history from 10 Commandments to present day translations in over 2,000 languages.
- There remains a need for Bible translations in around 1,900 languages spoken by about 350 million people.
- Future directions emphasize increasing collaboration, prioritizing remaining needs, and leveraging technology to accelerate progress toward the goal of Bible translations in all languages by 2025.
The document discusses Ezekiel's prophecy about the scattering and regathering of Israel. It describes Israel's condition for 2000 years of being scattered to the ends of the earth and appearing dead, until being gathered back to the land in the 20th century. However, it notes that Israel remains spiritually blind today and unwittingly prepares for the coming of the Antichrist by hosting a false Christianity.
Our secular world is reluctant to admit that early Bible translations had a tremendous impact upon its literature. A few of them have been honest enough to realize that a key part of the development of a language is the moment that it receives the Word of God.

How do we handle the text of Scripture sensitively? What difference does it make that the Bible we read today was originally composed 2000+ years ago?
This presentation from Wycliffe Bible Translators considers some of the challenges faced by working with a text that was written at a different point in history in a different language to English and for a different culture.
The Bible tells the story of God and his relationship with humanity in five acts: (1) Creation and the Fall, (2) Israel, (3) Jesus, (4) the Church, and (5) the Final Restoration. It uses narratives and stories to convey important theological concepts and lessons throughout the different eras of human history. The overarching story culminates in the restoration of God's creation through Jesus Christ.
Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
Have you ever been confused by the myriad of choices offered by AWS for hosting a website or an API?
Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, Lightsail, Amplify, S3 (and more!) can each host websites + APIs. But which one should we choose?
Which one is cheapest? Which one is fastest? Which one will scale to meet our needs?
Join me in this session as we dive into each AWS hosting service to determine which one is best for your scenario and explain why!
"$10 thousand per minute of downtime: architecture, queues, streaming and fin...Fwdays
Direct losses from downtime in 1 minute = $5-$10 thousand dollars. Reputation is priceless.
As part of the talk, we will consider the architectural strategies necessary for the development of highly loaded fintech solutions. We will focus on using queues and streaming to efficiently work and manage large amounts of data in real-time and to minimize latency.
We will focus special attention on the architectural patterns used in the design of the fintech system, microservices and event-driven architecture, which ensure scalability, fault tolerance, and consistency of the entire system.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
"Frontline Battles with DDoS: Best practices and Lessons Learned", Igor IvaniukFwdays
At this talk we will discuss DDoS protection tools and best practices, discuss network architectures and what AWS has to offer. Also, we will look into one of the largest DDoS attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure that happened in February 2022. We'll see, what techniques helped to keep the web resources available for Ukrainians and how AWS improved DDoS protection for all customers based on Ukraine experience
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
