The lecture course is taught by Dr. Robert Craig and covers chapters 11-20 of the textbook. It includes three exams, homework assignments, a final exam, and policies on attendance, grading, and conduct. The accompanying laboratory course involves completion of 24 experiments over the semester and constitutes 25% of the total grade for the chemistry course. Safety protocols are emphasized for the laboratory portion.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

approval.
ABSENCE IN MORE THAN TWO EXPERIMENTS WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE FOR THE
LABORATORY AND CONSEQUENTLY FOR THE OVERALL CLASS. A PASSING GRADE IS
REQUIRED FOR THE LABORATORY IN ORDER TO PASS THE OVERALL CLASS.
Office Hours: none
3. ***GRADING POLICY:
***Out of 100 pts: Attendance is mandatory(5%)-I take attendance with daily worksheets-they
donot count toward your grade:-meaning-to get a drivers license-your need a certain number of
hours observed by a driving instructor (ie: contact hours)- so same reasoning applies for
Chemistry(SEE MEDICALS-GO TO CHAIRPERSON-NOT ME)
I collect homework –everyweek-I do not accept late homework-I will not grade it -just mark it
“ok” (if not in yellow folder –when I open it-it is late)(exercise timely manner)
Attendance -5% (not flexible)
Homework – 10% (not flexible)
There are 2 lecture exams (65% of Your grade)(32.5% each)-none are dropped(

CLASS ROOM ETIQUE: Your safety is our major concern. Because You have loved ones-‘I need
everyone to return to them in one piece”
Please enter and leave the classroom in an orderly fashion. Please have the utmost respect for
others. Some need more quite classrooms to learn than others. Please raise your hand before you
ask a question. If you “rifle” questions – I can not go through the course material –and it is a lot-
so-we can meet other times to go over a particular topic. I am familiar with IEP (individualized
Educational plans) Please give me a copy. Persons with disabilities -(autism, dyslexia, auditory,
visual, etc.) please just sit up front.
ANY PHYSICAL OR VERBAL ABUSE WILL BE REPORTED TO THE CHAIRPERSON, LAB
SAFETY OFFICER AND HEAD OF SECURITY. SUCH INCIDENTS COULD LEAD TO
YOUR ARREST. *certified with NYC BOE for school violence prevent!
(i.e.: name calling, insulting others verbally, unwanted conversation, sexual comments etc.)
MEDICALS:
If You have a personal problem, such as asthma (medical) or hospitalization of Yourself
due to an accident (car accident, slip and fall-ankle, knee) –have been recently hospitalized
4. (broken leg-food poisoning) or a death of an immediate family member (NOT DISTANT
RELATIVE), or sudden pregnancy (illiness, dizziness-etc.)Email both mainoffice and
myself by a family member- bring documentation
I can contact the appropriate medical office for you (
*this is because sometimes we have to leave or evacuate facilities suddenly (fire, bomb
threat, etc.)
Thanks:
P.S.: never email me directly-please email the main office
if You email me directly requarding homework or exams material –just bring question to
the “question box”- I will make one-please type the question(s) out and hand it to me at the
beginning of the lecture-we can all learn from each other, and more often than not-You are
not the only person with that particular question(s)
If we do not have a recitation-I would like to designate a “recitation time”-night and weekend
classes are often “short changed” –Dr. R. Craig
ACCEPTABLE EMAILS:
“hello Dr. Craig-this is Cynthia from CHM 2-please go over my exam again?
It seems you gave Angie an 93 on exam 1 and I got a 89. My question #4 looks just like
hers- why? This is acceptable-it is a teachable moment! Just email the chairperson as well-
or the department secretarty simultaneously(
***These are unacceptable emails:
“Hello –Dr. Craig-this is Mike Smith- I am in your lecture and lab section-I am also Dr. Smith’s
son from the English department, and I work in the writing center.
Could You call me? 347-444-7788 –I am really nervous today
5. -while I understand You might be nervous-test anxiety is a normal reaction
if You are Physical fit-come in and Take the exam-It is unfair to other classmates and my family
for me to personally call You.
We all struggle here and there-You do not have to have a perfect performance to get an “A+” in
any class in college-I will never ask you any questions besides –“do you understand today’s
lesson?” this person wants me to “process” he has a relative that works at PACE, and what he
does for a living. I also will never get in your business-I am not a guidance counselor )
“Hey Dr. Craig- can you check question 5b, 5c and all of 6 (a,b and c) from chapter 17-I
am here with some friends and we want the right answer for class?”- this question others
probably have as well-as I would like to answer it –this is not an “online course” –these
question are best answered during a recitation.
*we will also end up having a series of emails and my Wife and kids, Brian and Brandon
will complain---because they need to communicate with me as well.
“Hey Dr. Craig-how was flooding during hurricane Sandy?”-as I would like to answer this
question-it is not really relevant to the course material. It is just a matter of fact-harmless
but unacceptable.
“my book has been stolen-can you email me the worksheet for next class, and the last 3
please?”
My answer: Yes – they will be in the portal-but I would like for you to maintain a
relationship (a positive one) with a study group and/or lab partner.
“hey professor- I just emailed You-I have to leave class early to get my daughter-please do
not penalized me?”-the fact is-YOU PAID TO BE HERE- Pace University Chemistry
Department did not ring your bell –and say pay $2,500.00 for my chem class. Just like you
might pay for a “personal trainer at BALLY’s”-You paid for this class-and – Your
probably over 18 years old –so You do not need permission to leave.
P.S.S: I PROMISE EVERY THING WILL BE DONE TO MAKE THIS A PLEASURABLE-
ENJOYABLE-PASSING GRADE IN CHEMISTRY

Safety goggles and lab coats have to be worn in the lab at all times. You will not be allowed to work in the lab without
safety goggles and lab coats for your own protection.
Grade: The Laboratory grade constitutes 25% of the total course grade. The laboratory report is due one week after
the experiment is completed. Points will be deducted for late lab reports, and instructors will grade and return your
lab reports within one week. Students are required to read the experiment and answer the questions before coming to
the laboratory. Missing more than 2 labs will earn you an “F” for the course.
Students enrolling in chemistry laboratory courses should be aware that a wide range of substances are used. If a student has
or suspects that a medical condition or health problem exists or may come to exist, which might be affected by being in a
chemical laboratory (e.g., allergies, chemical sensitivities, pregnancy, fainting, etc.), the student should consult his or her
personal physician. The student may also wish to consult the University Health Care Unit. Your laboratory instructor cannot
give you health care advice, but should be informed appropriately of concerns and potential problems.
Procedure for Students with Disabilities Who Wish to Obtain Accommodations for a Course. The University's
