The “right” attitude and general skills are top priorities of the employers, whereas subject knowledge ranks as third. The ability to collaborate and to see the big picture are the general skills that are valued the highest. However the required competence varies depending on labour market sector. Scientists seeking to broaden their competence should primarily focus on communication and IT.
- Trends on the labour market Our survey from 2016 on how employers value science competence and what knowledge and skills are in demand outlines an overall bright picture of the labour market for scientists. However, there are also some areas of evident concern. Scientists live up to their employers’ expectations. 25 percent of the employers in the survey intend to recruit over the next year thanks to expansion.
