Greg was affected by seeing the children of Korphe village doing schoolwork outside in the cold without a teacher or proper supplies. He realized they lacked the opportunities children have in the US and Canada. To honor his late sister Christa's memory more than leaving her necklace on a mountain, Greg decided to build a school for the village children to help them learn and succeed with a teacher.

1. Chapter 3 – I’m Going to Build You A School Taylor Cunha 8-14
Quick Write:
I think Greg was affected by the people of the village because he probably thought
about all the stuff people in the USA and Canada have and take for granted when these
children were doing their school work outside in the cold with no teacher and little supplies.
Greg was also probably affected by the children because Greg came to climb the K2
Mountain and he never thought about helping out the children who don’t have what we
have. Greg decided that to honor his sister Christa he will help the children because that will
honor her memory more than putting her necklace on the K2 Mountain.
After Reading:
a) Greg decides to build a school for the children of Korphe because he felt bad for
them and mentioned “Can you imagine a fourth-grade class in America, alone,
without a teacher, and working on their lessons”. So Greg felt like they need a
teacher to help them learn and succeed.
b) Greg is building the school in Korphe to honor his sister Christa’s memory and to
help out the children in the village.
c) If I wanted to honor someone very special to me I would like to take my parents to
Hawaii because they do everything they can for me and my mom really likes warm
beaches so Hawaii would be a perfect place for us.
