Every project is based on a number of assumptions. Assumptions about our users and assumptions that our team has a shared vision of what we are building and why we are building it. The longer we hold onto these assumptions, the greater we increase the risk of not meeting our users needs and ultimately, our project fails.
This talk will be about how we ensure we are meeting our users needs. In addition to learning project workflow, we will cover specific techniques that you can use to ensure that the user is at the center of our design and that you create a shared understanding among your team.
Driving User Adoption for SharePoint

Validating business ideas through design
Nicolò Volpato discusses his experience founding Tangible, an experience design company, and using design processes like MVPs to validate ideas and launch products. He started Tangible in 2004 while in college and has since grown it significantly. He emphasizes testing ideas with users through prototypes and MVPs to gather feedback before fully developing products. His example describes how he applied this approach in helping Moneyfarm, a financial startup, launch their product through iterative testing and validation of assumptions with users over a period of less than a year.

Measuring the value of enterprise social networking shared
Gordon Vala-Webb presented on measuring the impact of enterprise social networking. He discussed defining the expected business value, designing tools to deliver that value while enabling measurement, measuring through surveys, interviews and analytics, and reporting findings. Key challenges included defining hard-to-measure value, linking value to design, and balancing measurement accuracy with costs. The presentation provided lessons on measuring enterprise social networking to understand impact and guide improvements.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
