The document summarizes research from a project comparing unemployment issues in Pakistan and Russia. The researchers hypothesized that unemployment in the two countries stems from similar underlying causes. They gathered statistics on unemployment rates, conducted student questionnaires about post-graduation employment prospects, held focus groups on unemployment causes, and interviewed HR managers about hiring. Both the statistics and questionnaires showed similarly high youth unemployment rates and lack of student confidence in finding stable employment after graduation in both Pakistan and Russia.

Our primary hypothesis:
• The unemployment problem in Russia and Pakistan has the same
underlying reasons, so a similar “cure” can exist.
For testing our hypothesis, we have used 4 basic methods:
• Statistical analysis of unemployment issues in both Pakistan and
Russia;
• Questionnaire polls of students about to graduate in our countries;
• Focus groups with youth for revealing the causes of unemployment;
• Interviews with HR-managers in small and big enterprises in Russia
and Pakistan about employment chances in our countries.
