CampusFlipIt is the “Buy or Sell”
Upgrade You Never Knew You
Needed
Student based startup website plans to bring organization, efficiency, and
professionalism to the popular UConn “Buy or Sell” Facebook page.
July 2015, Storrs CT
The University of Connecticut’s Buy or Sell page is an infamous part of the campus’s culture. The
Facebook public group has over 20,000 members and is growing on a daily basis. Originally meant to
serve as a means for UConn students to sell various items, tickets, and other oddities, it has evolved into
a platform for which every university student tunes into for its drama. There are numerous posts that
are frivolous to the nature of the group and yet still garner wide attention. To further add to the
inefficiency of the page, there lies a lack of navigational and organizational tools for buyers to browse
items they may be interested in. Now, the newly built platform of CampusFlipIt is planning to eliminate
these issues and provide students a clean and efficient medium for their buying and selling needs.
CampusFlipIt.com is a website drawing influences from the likes of eBay, Amazon and Craigslist. The goal
set forth by the team of CF is to create a place where college students can have a secure site to buy and
sell items with their peers. All one needs to do to sign up for the site is provide an official ‘.edu’ email
account and create a password. This is to insure that the website’s consumers are college students, as
well as to set a secure tone for the website’s users. In addition, by providing an email address and
password, users are now set up with an account to easily navigate their ads, and contact information.
CampusFlipIt also offers a plethora of new functionality for users. Sellers are now prompted to put a
title, price, category, and description for all their items sold. Items being sold can now be searched
through either tags or by category. There are also separate sections for tickets and textbooks, which are
the two most popular items sold on the Facebook group. Users selling textbooks can input their ISBN
numbers and can compare competing prices, as well as allowing their book to be found more easily
through the search function. In addition to creating efficiency with posted advertisements, CampusFlipIt
also brings to the table an Events section. Users can now post events like charities, organizational
meetings, sporting events, etc. All the popular events will show up on a monthly calendar on the
homepage for easy viewing and accessibility.
The student run team of CampusFlipIt is based at Storrs but have far reaching goals for the future. The
next big step, already being worked on, is the expansion to Boston. CampusFlipIt offers a unique
opportunity to create cross-campus communication in cities with a dense college population. With the
website planning to leave it’s beta testing for the 2015 fall semester, the team at CampusFlipIt is excited
to share their vision with the rest of the student population.
