This course incorporates lecture, live demonstration, hands-on application,
question/answer and discussion.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES
At the completion of this program the participant will be able to:
• Identify five anatomical landmarks used in fabricating upper extremity
splints, one or more issues related to inaccurate use of that landmark, and
any additional contributing factors.
• Identify two potential splint material characteristics for each splint
fabricated during the lab component of the course, and at least two
corrective measures to optimize the splint that take into account the
properties of the selected splinting materials as well as two patient-
specific desired ADL activities outcomes/occupational performance
impacts with splint in place.
• Identify the three steps in the splint fabrication process, at least one
diagnostic factor, and at least one patient-specific lifestyle including
considerations around successful ADLs while in a splint when selecting a
specific splint pattern.
• Identify two or more material characteristics of splint materials, compare
and contrast the similarities and differences of two or more types of splint
materials, and identify one or more uses for each material type.
• Create five splints from start to finish, including demonstrating one or
more modifications of each splint for proper fit.
COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
Attendance for the entire seminar, it not amended CE will be granted
following review of the attendance sheet and adjusted hours will be awarded
based on actual attendance (excluding breaks/lunch).
Learning outcomes will be assessed using question and answer, hands-on
demonstration of skills, and a post course test (when applicable) to evaluate
acquisition of new knowledge. In addition, each attendee will receive a
course evaluation to complete.
