This sermon discusses how we all experience different seasons in life and God remains constant through it all. It uses the example of Peter's life to illustrate three principles of entering a new season: [1] New seasons bring change; [2] New seasons present new challenges to our faith; [3] New seasons can birth new champions as we are transformed through facing challenges. The key message is that we serve a God of seasons who purposes each season for our growth, even during difficult times, and calls us to step into new seasons as champions through His power.

New Season Same God
Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1-11

2. You have entered a new season
• This morning I want you to look around you.
Look over this building, and the faces of those
sitting around you.
• You thought you we just coming to a Joint
Celebration Sunday morning meeting time,
but you didn’t count on moving into a new
level, a new dimension of God this morning
•

3. “To everything there is a season, a
time for every purpose under
heaven” –
Ecclesiastes 3:1

4. You see we serve a God of
seasons.
We see it in creation.
• God created the four seasons that are based
upon the rotation of the Earth as it orbits the
Sun.
• The seasons change as the earth moves, but
the sun in our planetary system remains
constant, and everything revolves around it.

5. • In many ways we see the signature of the
same artist in our lives.
• Much like the earth, our lives should revolve
around the Son, Jesus Christ.
• Our lives will change, and we will enter and
exit many seasons,
• but the Son remains constant yesterday,
today and forever.

7. We serve a God of seasons.

8. Understanding Chronos and Kairos.

9. Chronos
refers to chronological or sequential time.
Chronos time is measured by the clock
and calendar. It is orderly, rhythmic, and
predictable. It is what we moderns
typically think of as time.

10. Kairos
time, on the other hand, has a more nebulous
meaning. It does not have an equivalent word in
English.
The least descriptive translation would be
'in between time'—
a moment of undetermined period of time in which
'something' special happens.
God doesn’t measure seasons with clocks and
calendars that is, but through truth and revelation.

11. • TRANSITION
• This morning we are going to take a quick
glance at the life of one disciple Peter.
•
• And as we look at Peter’s life, we will discuss
three key principles about stepping into a new
season.
• If you are taking notes this morning write
these down.

12. Stepping into a new season brings
NEW CHANGES

13. TRUTH:
For every season there is a
reason

14. • Change is inevitable.
• It’s going to happen. We look outside at the
world around us and notice things are
different today than they were 10 years ago,
last year or even yesterday.
• But remember we serve a God of seasons.

15. • And each season is different than the others.
• Seasons are about new change and reason.
• Some are meant for things to grow, and
others for things to die off.
• In some seasons the days are longer, in others
the night.

16. God gives us revelations and truths
to propel us into new and different
seasons.

17. • Because we are creatures of habit and if He
didn’t change things we would become
complacent in one place.
• Peter’s life as a fisherman was very
predictable, wake up fish, sell next day same
thing.
• Fishing was a family trade, and most of them
were not educated.
•

18. • Looking at Peter, he entered into a new
season when Jesus called him to follow.
• “And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called
Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were
fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers
of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.” – Matthew
4:18-20
• One day Peter was just an ordinary fisherman,
until, I said until, Jesus came walking by. And
when Jesus gave Peter the word, his life was
changed.

19. There was more than just a change
in vocation that occurred in Peter,
but an inward change took place.

20. • The word “make” in the Greek can also be
translated “sprout forth”.
• We are called to bear fruit.
• And the seasons in your life have served a
purpose to nurture that seed, and now, today,
you have stepped into a new season in which
that miracle is about to spout forth.

21. Stepping into a new season brings
NEW CHALLENGES

22. TRUTH:
For every season there is a

23. • Suddenly is predictable life was turned upside
down and now he followed an unpredictable
Master.
• Fishing is a very rhythmic trade, it is based on
specific times, destinations, skill set etc.
• New seasons come to test our faith, feelings,
traditions and core beliefs of the Master we
follow

feelings, traditions and core beliefs.

25. • His faith was challenged by stepping out of a storm
battered boat to walk on the water.
• His feelings were challenged when one minute he was
proclaiming Jesus the Son of God, and the next minute
being rebuked by Jesus, and being called Satan, and
having Jesus turn his back on him telling him to get
behind him.
• His traditions and prejudices were challenged when he
followed Jesus into Samaria.
• His humility was challenged when the Son of God, the
Light of the World, the Alpha the Omega, the
Beginning and the End, lowered Himself to the point of
a servant to wash Peter’s feet

26. • And in the courtyard Peter denied knowing
the Lord three times.
• And that is exactly what happens to us when
we step into a season where it seems as if all
is falling apart, you feel dry and empty and
despite your best efforts you feel as if you’ve
let the Lord down and you begin to believe
you are a complete and total failure.

27. • You are still trying to follow Jesus, but you are
following at a distance.
• But remember, there is purpose for every
season. What Peter didn’t know, and many of
us today fail to realize is, that Christ’s love is
greater than you’re failures.
• When you fail to meet the challenge, there is
a grace and a mercy that is far greater than
your shortcomings

28. Stepping into a new season births
NEW CHAMPIONS

29. TRUTH:
For every season there is a
reason

30. Peter was transformed from a fisherman into a
preaching powerhouse.
• I believe those who knew Peter three years
before were amazed to see the new champion
that he had become.
• Each season is an opportunity to raise up and be
a Champion.
• Every challenge is an opportunity.
• God has transformed us by His power. And God is
calling His champions to step into a new season.

31. “God didn’t save me to be a loser,
but he saved me to be a champion.”

32. Each season is an opportunity to
raise up and be a Champion.

right now.
