Simple machines like hammers make tasks easier by amplifying the force applied, for example using a hammer to drive a nail instead of just hands.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.

- 2. Gravity is a force. It pulls things down. That way we don’t float up in the air. Gravity also pulls things together.
- 3. Work is the ability to push or pull. For instants if I want to move this bucket, I would have to push or pull it so I’m doing work.
- 4. Friction is a complicated thing. If you have a basketball and it started to roll it would have to stop at some point. That what Friction is. If there was no friction that basketball wouldn't stop rolling.
- 5. Simple machines make it easy to work. For instants I need to put a nail into the wall. Instead of pounding the nail into the wall with my hand I can use a hammer. You can find all sorts of simple machines, I can’t even name them all.
