Imaging objects lying within a plane of interest
The pixel "picture element" is the basic unit of a digital image on a computer display.
cone-shaped X-ray beam is used which orbits around the patient obtaining data in a cylindrical volume.
the computer divides the cylinder into tiny cubes or voxels.
the computer creates separate images along the sagittal, coronal and axial anatomical planes.
Most scanner programs display a image reconstruction of the object in the 3 anatomic planes of imaging: the axial, sagittal, and coronal planes.
Most CBCT softwares display images in three orthogonal planes (axial, sagittal, and coronal) and 3 D image
Panoramic line is drawn over selected axial image centre of the arch.. As a result we get 2D panoramic reconstruction. Thickness of this can be changed.
Buccolingual cross-sectional images are created perpendicular to panoramic line.
The axial and panoramic images are used as reference images to show the exact location of the cross-sectional images.
There are numbers given on cross sections which correspond with these reference lines.
MPR …oblique axial, oblique sagittal and oblique coronal planes..
this feature can be used to localize an object or in this case, impacted tooth.
