3. CAUSE
•A cause is what makes something
happens. To find the cause, you need
to ask yourself, “What happened first?”
•Cause happens first, but does not
always come first in sentences and
texts.
4. EFFECT
•Is what happens because of something else
(the cause). To find the effect, you need to
act yourself, ”What happened second?”.
5. SIGNAL WORDS
•This will help you to identify the two parts
of cause and effect relationship. The most
common signal words used are: because, if,
when, so, then, since, therefore, before,
after, etc.

THE SENTENCE BUT THE CAUSE AND
EFFECT ARE STILL THE SAME.

Cause: I never brush my teeth.
Effect: My teeth has cavities.

Cause: Maria didn't follow the recipe
correctly.

Cause: Price increase.
Effect: Sales are down.

11. SINCE THE ELECTRICITY WENT OUT FOR

FREEZER MELTED.
Cause: The electricity went out for most of the
day.
Effect: The ice cream in the freezer melted.
