Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban
Harry’s family members are negatively
speaking of him and his parents
She is speaking poorly of his parents.
Harry begins to use his magic
Her glass breaks
She make harry clean the mess
Harry yells at her to stop her bad
mouthing his parents
Really starts to use his magic
Harry went against the rule of not being allowed
to use magic outside of Hogwarts to protect his
deceased parents from the claims being made
about them. I chose this scene because it shows
that he did anything to protect them because he
is a protagonist with nothing to lose.
I will be using voice over to discuss these points
New Scene: Harry storms out
Arguing with his uncle
Threatens his uncle
Choose to leave home
• I chose this scene because Harry’s sense of
invincibility is shown. After the huge fight he
just got into, Harry chooses to storm out and
runaway from his home because it is better to
survive alone than to live in that house.
• I will be using voice over to discuss these
points
Children of Men
Introduction to Dylan’s past family
Arguing with ex wife
Follows ex wife off the bus
Discussion of him helping her with her
plan
Meeting the people involved in the
plan
Nonchalant attitude towards the
dangerous plan is shown
• We are introduced to Dylan’s past family and how
he no longer has one. Dylan agrees to help his ex
wife in a plan (to help a girl reach the border) that
will put his life at risk all for money.
• I chose this scene because we see his nonchalant
attitude towards dangerous situations and it
reflects the idea that he is a protagonist with
nothing to lose because he has no family. I will
use voice over to discuss these points
New Scene: Dylan tries to escape from
plan
Trying to escape past the men in the
car
Has the men follow them but he
continues trying to get the car out of
there
Success in escaping
• Dylan tries to escape from the other people
that were involved in the plan to get the girl to
the border because he realizes they have bad
intentions. I chose this scene because Dylan
puts his life in danger, showing his sense of
invincibility, and succeeds in escaping.
• I will be using voice over to discuss these
points
New Scene: Last point before the
border
She sees a pool of blood, it’s Dylan’s
He’s been shot
• The girl and Ryan have defied all odds
throughout the movie and have made it to
their final point before the border. I chose this
scene because Ryan still acts as though he has
nothing to lose, even after knowing he has
been shot.
Gravity
Discussion of Ryan’s past family
We are introduced to the death of her
daughter
• I chose this scene because here we are told
that Ryan has no family. This introduces the
reoccurring theme of a lack of family for the
protagonist that leads them to feel as though
they have nothing to lose.
New Scene: Ryan trying to get to earth
• I will be using voice over. In this scene, Ryan is
in a spacecraft trying to get back to earth. I
chose this scene because she has a
monologue in which she confidently exclaims
that she knows her odds of making it to earth
alive are very low, but that she is willing to risk
it all to find out: showing her sense of not
having anything to lose
Ryan finally reaches earth
Spacecraft has landed
Ryan swimming to the top
• I will be using voiceover to discuss how Ryan
has made it out of the space craft and has
survived. I chose this scene because as she
looks out into the world after what she just
went through, her sense of invincibility is fully
showcased.
Creative Writing Portion
• Separate monologues from the perspective of
each protagonist that go into depth with their
thoughts during certain scenes. We are taken
further into their minds so that we can
understand why their lack of families have
given them the sense that they have nothing
to lose in extreme situations. What drives
their invincibility ?
Live Action Portion
• I will read each monologue aloud and the
class will then engage in conversation with
me. I will be taking on the role of each
character and the class will have to guess
which monologue belongs to which
protagonist. They can then ask me questions
about my actions and why I thought the way
that I did in the scenes shown or why I did the
dangerous things I did.
