Start By:
a. Separate the track.
b. Remove the drive axle (outer only).
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Rotate final drive (2) until drain plug (1) is at the 6 o'clock position. The oil capacity of final
drive (2) is 14 L (3.7 US gal).
2. Remove drain plug (1) from final drive (2). Drain the oil from final drive (2).

3. Adjust Tooling (A) until Dimension (X) is equal to 145 mm (5.7 inch). Install the lower
bracket as shown in Illustration 2.
Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy assembly.
The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.
Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly.
Approximate weight of the assembly is given below.
4. Install cover (4).
5. Remove two nuts (3) and bolts from the sprocket segments.
6. Use a suitable lifting device and Tooling (A) on final drive (2). The weight of final drive (2)
is approximately 670 kg (1480 lb).

Note: Do not remove two bolts (7).
7. Remove bolts (5).
8. Remove two bolts (6).
9. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove the final drive from the machine.
10. Remove the O-ring seal from the face of the final drive hub.
Installation Procedure
1. Install final drive (2) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 800 ± 90 N·m (590 ± 66 lb ft).
b. Apply SAE 30W to the threads of the two sprocket segment bolts. Tighten nuts (3) to
a torque of 300 ± 50 N·m (221 ± 36 lb ft). Tighten nuts (3) by another 1/3 turn. The
final torque of nuts (3) must be a minimum of 570 N·m (420 lb ft).

Start By:
a. Remove the final drive.

When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure
that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated
capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or
exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of
the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could
result in personal injury or death.
1. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to planetary carrier (1). The weight of planetary
carrier (1) is approximately 110 kg (240 lb).
2. Remove bolts (2).
3. Remove planetary carrier (1) from the sprocket hub.
4. Remove the O-ring seal from planetary carrier (1).
5. Remove the bolts from plates (3).
6. Remove plates (3).
7. Remove the O-ring seals from plates (3).

8. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to remove shafts (4) from planetary carrier (1).
9. Remove planetary gears (5) from planetary carrier (1).
10. Remove bearing cones (6) from gears (5).
11. Use Tooling (C) to remove the bearing cups from planetary gears (5).

Note: Sun gear (27) is free to fall if the sun gear stays with planetary carrier (8).
12. Use Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to remove planetary carrier (8) and sun gear (7) from
the sprocket hub. The weight of planetary carrier (8) and sun gear (7) are approximately 46 kg
(101 lb).

13. Turn over planetary carrier (8) and sun gear (7).
14. Remove spiral ring (9) from sun gear (7).
15. Use a suitable lifting device to remove planetary carrier (8) from sun gear (7). The weight of
planetary carrier (8) is approximately 37 kg (82 lb).
16. Remove the bolts and retainers (10).
17. Use a suitable press and Tooling (B) to remove the shafts from planetary carrier (8).
18. Remove gears (11) from planetary carrier (8).

19. Remove bearings (12) from planetary gears (11).
20. Remove the lock rings and bearing cups (13) from planetary gears (11).
21. Remove bolts (14) and retainer (15).
22. Use a magnet to remove pins from the reaction hub.
23. Install Tooling (E) and suitable lifting device on reaction hub (16). The weight of reaction hub (16)
and ring gear (17) are approximately 80 kg (176 lb).
24. Remove reaction hub (16) and ring gear (17).
25. Remove Tooling (E).

26. Turn over reaction hub (16) and ring gear (17).
27. Remove the retainer ring from ring gear (17).
28. Remove reaction hub (16) from ring gear (17). The weight of reaction hub (16) is approximately
22 kg (49 lb).
29. Install Tooling (F) on sprocket hub (19).
30. Use Tooling (F) to loosen sprocket hub (19) from the spindle.
31. Remove Tooling (F).
32. Remove bearing cone (18) from sprocket hub (19).

33. Install Tooling (G) and a suitable lifting device on sprocket hub (19). The weight of sprocket hub
(19) is approximately 280 kg (620 lb).
34. Remove sprocket hub (19) from spindle (20).
35. Turn over sprocket hub (19).
Note: Mark Duo-Cone seal (21) for placement during assembly.
36. Remove Duo-Cone seal (21).

37. Remove bearing cup (22).

38. Turn over sprocket hub (19).
39. Remove bearing cup (23).
40. Remove Duo-Cone seal (24) from spindle (20).
NOTICE
Damage will result from removal of bearing cone (25).
41. If necessary, remove bearing cone (25) from spindle (20).
42. Remove retainer (27) and lip seal (26) from spindle (20).
43. Orient spindle (20) with the spline downward. Support spindle (20) securely.
44. Inspect spindle (20) to determine the reusability.

1. Use Tooling (H) to install retainer (27).Install lip seal (26) to retainer (27).
2. Apply clean oil to lip seal (26).
3. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (25) to a maximum of 135 °C (275 °F).
4. Install bearing cone (25) on spindle (20).
5. Use Tooling (J) to install Duo-Cone seals (24) on spindle (20).
6. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (23) and (22).
7. Install bearing cups (23) and (22) in sprocket hub (19).
8. Use Tooling (J) to install the Duo-Cone seal in sprocket hub (19).

9. Install Tooling (G) and a suitable lifting device on sprocket hub (19). The weight of sprocket hub
(19) is approximately 280 kg (620 lb).
10. Use Tooling (G) and a suitable lifting device to position sprocket hub (19) carefully on spindle (20).
11. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (18) to a maximum of 135 °C (275 °F).
12. Install bearing cone (18) on sprocket hub (19).
13. Position Tooling (K) on bearing cone (18).
14. Install retainer (15).
15. Rotate sprocket hub (19) as bolts (14) are tightened to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).
16. Allow bearing cone (18) to return to room temperature before removing retainer (15) and Tooling
(K).
17. Remove retainer (15) and Tooling (G).
18. Position reaction hub (16) in ring gear (17).
19. Install the retainer ring.
20. Turn over reaction hub (16) and ring gear (17).
Note: Reaction hub (16) and ring gear (17) weigh 80 kg (176 lb).
21. Install Tooling (E) and a suitable lifting device to reaction hub (16).
