1. Rotate the final drive until the drain plug is at the bottom.
2. Drain the final drive oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive -
Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.
3. Remove the outer axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove and Install".

Note: Tooling (A) must be installed to a depth of 25 mm (1.0 inch) to hold the planetary
carrier.
4. Remove three equally spaced bolts (1) and install Tooling (A).
5. Remove the remaining bolts (1).
6. Position outer planetary carrier (2) away from the hub allowing enough room to install
Tooling (B).
7. Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to outer planetary carrier (2). The weight of
outer planetary carrier (2) is approximately 124 kg (273 lb).
8. Remove Tooling (A).
Note: Inner planetary carrier and sun gear (3) are to stay in the hub while outer planetary
carrier (2) is being removed.
9. Use a suitable pry bar at the bottom of outer planetary carrier (2) to help keep outer
planetary carrier (2) aligned straight with the hub during the removal process.
10. Remove outer planetary carrier (2).

11. Remove O-ring seal (4) from outer planetary carrier (2).
12. Attach Tooling (C) to inner planetary carrier and sun gear (3). The weight of inner planetary
carrier and sun gear (3) is approximately 52 kg (115 lb).
13. Use a suitable pry bar in the center of inner planetary carrier and sun gear (3) to help keep
inner planetary carrier and sun gear (3) aligned straight with the hub during the removal
process.
14. Remove inner planetary carrier and sun gear (3).

15. Remove thrust ring (5) and O-ring seal (6).
16. Remove lip seal (7).
Installation Procedure
1. Install outer planetary carrier (2) and inner planetary carrier and sun gear (3) in the reverse
order of removal.
a. Install lip seal (7) in the direction indicated in Illustration 7 towards the center of the
machine.
b. Lubricate the lip of lip seal (7) with lubricant being sealed.
c. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 430 ± 60 N·m (320 ± 45 lb ft).

Start By:
a. Separate the track.
b. Remove the axles.

Typical Example
1. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A).
2. Remove seven bolts (1) and install Tooling (A) to final drive, steering planetary, and brake
(2). The weight of final drive, steering planetary, and brake (2) is approximately 794 kg
(1750 lb).
Note: Bolts (4) hold the final drive, the planetary assembly, and the brake together.
3. Remove bolts (3) and (5). Do not remove bolts (4).

Typical Example
4. Remove final drive, steering planetary, and brake (2).
5. Remove O-ring seals (6) and O-ring seal (7) from final drive, steering planetary, and brake
(2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install final drive, steering planetary, and brake (2) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 800 ± 90 N·m (590 ± 66 lb ft).
b. Lubricate the washer faces, the nut faces, the faces for bolts (1), and the threads for
bolts (1) with Tooling (B).
c. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 300 ± 50 N·m (220 ± 37 lb ft). Then, tighten bolts (1)
for another 120° ± 5°.

Steering Planetary and Brake - Disassemble

Start By:
a. Remove the right side final drive, the planetary group, and the brake.

1. Remove bolts (1) that hold the planetary assembly and brake (2) to final drive (3).
2. Install Tooling (C). Tighten Tooling (C) evenly to remove planetary assembly and brake (2)
from final drive (3). Remove Tooling (C).

3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to planetary assembly and brake (2). The
weight of planetary assembly and brake (2) is approximately 136 kg (300 lb). Remove
planetary assembly and brake (2) from final drive (3).

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
4. Remove bolts (4).
5. Remove ring gear (5) from housing (6).

6. Remove friction discs and brake plates (7) from housing (6).

7. Remove bolts (8) and remove thrust disc (9) from housing (6).

8. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to remove planetary carrier (11) from housing (6).
Note: Do not allow carrier (11) to fall when planetary carrier (11) is pressed from housing
(6).
Note: If a shim pack is present between the plate (9) and planetary carrier (11). Reuse the
same shim pack during assembly only if reusing the same planetary carrier (11). If a new
planetary carrier (11) is being used the shim pack should be discarded.
9. Remove bearing cone (10) (not shown) from housing (6).

10. Remove ring (14) from planetary carrier (12).
11. Remove bolts (15).
12. Remove slinger (13) from planetary carrier (12).
13. If necessary, remove bearing cone (16) from planetary carrier (12).
Note: Bearing cone (16) will be destroyed during removal.

14. Push pin (18) into shaft (17).

15. Remove shaft (17), gear (20), discs (22), and bearings (21) from planetary carrier (12).
16. Remove pin (18) from shaft (17).
17. Repeat Steps 14 through 16 for the two remaining planetary gears.
18. Remove ring gear (19) from planetary carrier (12).
