Start By:
a. Remove bulldozer blade.
Note: May need to position blocks under tracks to raise the rear of machine to install Tooling (B).
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers

before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from performing service on the track roller
frame.
Refer to Special Instruction, SMHS8273 for inspection and removal
procedures before performing any service.
1. Separate the track.

2. Install Tooling (A) to hold the suspension bogies in the correct position.

3. Use Tooling (B) to raise the rear of the machine until the track guides are above the track
links.
4. Use Tooling (B) to raise the front of the tractor with until the track guides are above the
track links.
5. Remove plug (1). Drain the oil from the pivot shaft compartment.

6. Position Tooling (C) under the equalizer bar on the opposite side of the track roller frame
being removed. Raise the equalizer bar until a 25.4 mm (1.00 inch) piece of the bar stock
can be installed between the frame and the equalizer bar. Place the piece on the side of the
track that is being removed. This bar stock keeps the equalizer bar in the original position
during the removal of the track roller frame.
7. Position Tooling (C) under the front track roller frame.

8. Loosen the nuts and bolts (2). Remove equalizer bar pin (3) from the rear track roller frame.
9. Remove bolts (4) from seal retainer (5).
10. Attach a suitable lifting device to trunnion (7). The weight of trunnion (7) is approximately
43 kg (95 lb). Remove bolts (6) and trunnion (7).
11. Remove plug (8) from plate (9).

12. Remove the bolt and the spacer behind plug (8).
13. Use Tooling (D) to remove plate (9).
14. Remove bolts (10) and plate (11). Remove the ring behind plate (11).

Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy assembly.
The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.
Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly.
Approximate weight of the assembly is given below.
15. Use a suitable lifting device and Tooling (E) to support weight of track roller frame (12).
The weight of track roller frame (12) is approximately 4350 kg (9600 lb).
16. Remove Tooling (C) from the front track roller frame.
17. Remove track roller frame (12).
18. Remove O-ring seal (13).

Start By:
a. Remove the track roller frame.
When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure
that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated
capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or
exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of
the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could
result in personal injury or death.
Personal injury can result from performing service on the track roller
frame.
Refer to Special Instruction, SMHS8273 for inspection and removal
procedures before performing any service.
Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy assembly.
The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.
Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly.
Approximate weight of the assembly is given below.

1. Place the track roller frame on a level surface. Support each end of the track roller frame
with the track guides.
2. Remove bolts (1) and retainer (3) from track roller frame (2).
3. Remove the O-ring seal from retainer (3) which seals between the retainer and track roller
frame (2).

4. Position Tooling (A) as shown in Illustration 2. Rotate the nut in order to apply pressure to
plate (4). Separate plate (4) and retainer (5) and insert Tooling (B) to keep plate (4) and
retainer (5) separate. Insert Tooling (B) at four equally spaced locations around retainer (5).
5. Use a soft hammer around the outer diameter of retainer (5) to loosen and remove plate (4).
Note: The 8E-2898 Plate is the same component that is used on the end of the pivot shaft.
Note: Orientation of retainers (5) and (6) for assembly.
6. Use a suitable press and Tooling (C) to remove retainer (6) from retainer (5).

7. Use a suitable press to remove seal (7) from retainer (5).
NOTICE
When these components are removed, the components are damaged or
destroyed.
8. Inspect bearing (8) on each side of the track roller frame for wear and for damage. Remove
bearings (8) from the track roller frame, only if necessary.
9. Use a suitable lifting device to position track roller frame (2) on suitable cribbing. The
weight of track roller frame (2) is approximately 4350 kg (9600 lb). Remove Tooling (D).
10. Mark the track idlers, the caps, and the shims, so that the components are assembled in the
original locations. Remove the track idlers.

Note: Orientation of track rollers (14), caps (13), and the track roller frame for assembly.
11. Attach a suitable lifting device to track roller (14). Remove bolts (12) and caps (13). The
weight of track roller (14) is approximately 98 kg (215 lb). Remove track roller (14) from
the minor bogie. Repeat this procedure for all of the track rollers.
12. Remove bolts (16) and track guides (15) from the major bogies.

Note: Removal of the plugs and stoppers releases oil.
13. Use a variable speed drill to remove plug (17) and stopper (19) from each end of cartridge
pin (18).
14. Repeat Steps 13 through 16 for the remainder of the minor bogies.
15. Install Tooling (E) on the minor bogie. Suspend Tooling with a suitable lifting device.
Remove the cartridge pin.
16. Remove minor bogie (20) from the major bogie.
17. Insert Tooling (F) between the track roller frame and the major bogie to hold the
components in place during the removal of the cartridge pins.

18. Use Tooling (G) to remove retaining ring (21) from each side of the track roller frame.
19. Install Tooling (H) in plate (22). Remove plate (22) from each side of the track roller frame.
Note: Removal of the plugs and stoppers releases oil.
20. Use a variable speed drill to remove plug (23) and stopper (25) from each end of cartridge
pin (24). Remove plugs (26) from each side of the track roller frame.

21. Install Tooling (E) on the major bogie. Use suitable lifting device to support Tooling (E).
Remove the cartridge pins.
22. Attach a suitable lifting device to major bogie (27). The weight of major bogie (27) is
approximately 190 kg (420 lb).
23. Repeat Steps 17 through 21 for the remainder of the major bogies.

24. Remove pad assemblies (28) from the track roller frame and from the major bogies.
25. Remove the front track roller frame from the rear track roller frame.
26. Remove the track adjuster.
27. Remove the recoil spring.

When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure
that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated
capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or
exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of
the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could
result in personal injury or death.
1. Install the recoil spring.
2. Install the track adjuster.
3. Install the front track roller frame in the rear track roller frame.

4. Install pad assemblies (28) on the track roller frame and on the major bogies.
5. Attach a suitable lifting device to major bogie (27). The weight of major bogie (27) is
approximately 190 kg (420 lb). Install major bogie (27) in the track roller frame.
6. Add 60 ± 3 cc of Tooling (J) to the cartridge pins. Install the rubber stoppers to
3.00 ± 1.00 mm (0.118 ± 0.039 inch) below the surface of the pin.
7. Apply Tooling (K) to the bores of the major bogie and to the bores of the track roller frame.
NOTICE
Install the cartridge pin with the Mark (X) on the outside of the track
roller frame. Position the Mark (X) to the top or to the bottom of the
vertical centerline.
8. Install the cartridge pins in both sides of the track roller frame.
