The document contains illustrations supporting each step in the procedures.
This document provides instructions for removing and installing a flywheel housing on a Caterpillar 416C backhoe loader with a 3054 engine. It outlines the required tools and safety precautions. The removal procedure involves supporting the engine, removing mounting bolts, attaching a lifting device to the housing, and separating the housing from the cylinder block using bolts or light hammer taps. The installation procedure is the reverse of removal.
1) The document provides instructions for removing and installing the crankshaft rear seal, flywheel housing, and crankshaft pulley on a Caterpillar 3054 engine.
2) The removal procedures describe removing mounting bolts, seals, gaskets and housings. The installation procedures describe cleaning surfaces, installing seals, gaskets and housings, and tightening bolts to the specified torques.
3) Tools, torque specifications, and cautions about cleanliness and fluid containment are provided to correctly complete the repair procedures.
The document is a service repair manual that provides instructions for removing the transmission from a 414E Backhoe Loader. It outlines 25 steps to disassemble the transmission into its major components. These include removing mounting hardware, draining fluids, disconnecting electrical connections and hydraulic lines, and using various tools to separate the transmission from the engine and remove internal shafts, gears, and casings. Precautions are given to support components and contain fluids during the process.

Removal Procedure
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop
Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure.
Hot oils can cause burns.
To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the
implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel
circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic
lines or components are disconnected or removed.

3. Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap
is cool enough to touch.
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will
reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.
To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always
plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover
any disassembled components and clean them properly before
assembly.
Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component
exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any
contamination.
Note: A hydraulic oil sample should be obtained before any maintenance is performed in order to
establish the system contaminant level. Refer to Fluid Analysis Laboratory Guide, SEBF3116,
"Obtaining an Oil Sample for S·O·S Analysis" for the correct sampling procedure. Refer to
Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Sampling Interval and Location of Sampling Valve" for the
correct location.

Pilot Valve (Loader) - Assemble
SMCS - 5059-012-JL
Assembly Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. All disassembly and all assembly procedures
must be performed on a clean work surface and in a clean hydraulic area. Keep cleaned parts
covered and protected at all times.
Note: O-rings, gaskets, and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the
same sealing properties as a new O-ring. Use 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound during the
assembly procedure.
Note: Apply a light film of hydraulic oil to all components before assembly.
