Shah Nawaz, a small sugarcane farmer, discusses how the Rural Business Development Centre's Gur project has helped address issues small farmers face. The project established a Gur making unit as an alternative for farmers to sell their sugarcane. Shah Nawaz took his sugarcane to be processed into Gur, which was then sold, allowing him to earn immediate cash. He was able to earn Rs. 10,000 more than if he had sold to sugar mills, and harvest his wheat crop on time. The project also created awareness around value-added Gur products and engaged women in packaging, providing income.
