First Acid Stimulation with SPT
in Open Hole section improves
operator production in 27%
Location: Paraíso Offshore Region / Mexico
OPERATOR’S CHALLENGE
A major operator in offshore region was looking to perform an
acid stimulation in challenging conditions . One major targeted
area was the utilization of coiled tubing in order to place
accurately the treatment at JSK formation, in order to
overcome the high costs of treatment volumes compared to
bullheading option. The operator goal was to stimulate lower
sections of the open hole to increase production, the well has
no production at that time. The challenges associated for this
intervention are as follow:
• Pass BHA through small restrictions 2.562”
• Open Hole Section (477 m)
• Provide a divergence method for stimulation
• Overcome carbonate formation issues like low
porosity, low permeability, HP/HT
HALLIBURTON’S SOLUTION
Based on the results obtained from the analysis of the Sigma®
process, a selective acid stimulation using self position tool
(SPT) was recommended, solvents systems and both Acids
Gelled and organic (MOD PAD Gel and HTA 1210) as a
bundled solution; with the objective of stimulating and
connecting the best areas of natural fractures. In this well, SPT
was proposed to execute 14 clusters in order make selective
stimulation and increase effective stimulated contact zones
with the reservoir.
ECONOMIC VALUE CREATED
After intervention well has recovered production as follow:
• Reduction over 63% in volumes of treatment
• 14 intervals treated in 3 hr with CT
• 99.7% Oil and 0.3% water cut
• Increase in 3,535 bopd for the operator
