Earthquakes typically occur along fault lines where tectonic plates meet and push against each other, such as in South America, North America, Australia, Africa, the Philippines, India, the Caribbean, and Haiti. Earthquakes can destroy buildings, homes, and infrastructure, hurt people, and force evacuations to safer areas as the ground shakes and splits buildings in half.
