Leader, Member, Minority Pre-professional Science Society/ Minority Association of Pre-
Medical Students
August 2009-present (as a member) August 2011-April 2013 (as a Leader)
This organization was a creative outlet for my leadership capabilities. I
started as a member when I began my college experience and it provided me
information about health care professions. However, I did see room for
improvement for the organization. I joined the executive board as the
historian to help prepare myself for a higher-ranking position. I observed
every role and learned the parameters of them. When the following year
came, I accepted the position as Vice President of this organization. As a
higher-ranking position, I created programs that are to date, still in effect
because of their benefit to the organization and its members. This
organization taught me the importance of professionalism. I learned how to
address professionals in an email format, how to conduct a general body
meeting, and how to run an executive board meeting. I also learned how to
make proposals on the behalf of the organization. This organization greatly
improved my leadership skills without a doubt.

Volunteer, Project downtown,
August 2011-Present (Unpaid, 4 hours/week)
In this organization, I volunteered my time feeding, clothing and conversing with
the homeless of Downtown Tampa. In this experience, I learned diversity and that
everyone is different. People start out on different paths and they may or may not
end up at the same destination. Much of the homeless that I spoke with were highly
educated and had careers to speak of. However, one wrong turn and they lost it all.
Learning this humbled me and taught me to take nothing for granted.
