In organic chemistry, a carbohydrate is a
biomolecule consisting
of carbon (C), hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O)
atom.
The term is most common in Biochemistry,
where it is a synonym of saccharide.

6. Generalized Formula
The generalized formula of
carbohydrate is CnH2nOn
The ratio of hydrogen to oxygen
atom is 2:1
The suffix of carbohydrate is -ose

8. Monosaccharide
Monosaccharides are the smallest
(lower molecular weight) carbohydrates, are
commonly referred to as sugars.
In Monosaccharides the carbon atom ranges
from 1 to 8.
The most common example is glucose whose
formula is C6H12O6

9. Oligosaccharides
In oligosaccharides the number of carbon
atoms ranges from 2-10
It is the combination of monosaccharides
The most example is Maltose and sucrose.

10. Polysaccharide
It actually is the combination of long chain of
monosaccharides.
Polysaccharide is further divided into two types
namely
Homopolysaccharide (combination of same
types of monosaccharides) e.g glycogen and
cellulose.
Heteropolysaccharide(combination of different
type of monosaccharides) e.g Peptidoglycans.

Carbohydrates are found in a wide area of
foods like bread, beans, milk, popcorn,
potatoes, cookies, spaghetti, soft drinks, corn,
and cherry pie.

Breakdown of fatty acids and preventing
ketosis.
