The Canary Islands are an archipelago of 7 main islands - La Palma, Lanzarote, La Gomera, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, and El Hierro - located off the northwest coast of Africa. The islands were formed by volcanic activity and are home to various volcanic features like calderas, necks, and volcanoes such as El Teide and Timanfaya. Several of the islands have National Parks that protect the unique volcanic landscapes.
