“On the way to the
hospital I repeatedly
prayed for the robbers,
saying ‘Lord forgive them
they know not what they
do’. It was the only gift I
could give them.”
Langley, BC - In October 2010 Professor, Pastor and
World Vision International Board Vice President Emeritus
Seth Ayettey was assaulted in his home. Shot and left for
dead, he and his family experienced a series of miracles
that culminated in a choir of angels. Now you can read his
challenging and hope-filled memoir on experiencing the
best and worst of mankind and how he knows grace will
save lives. Vraeyda Literary announces the Canadian re-
lease of Rev. Prof Seth Ayettey’s potent memoir Can You
Hear the Angels Sing?. More than a memoir on grace, faith
and healing in West Africa, it’s a glimpse into the breath of
the miraculous, and the heart of a modern day humanitari-
an who has given everything for his country. A bestseller in
his home nation of Ghana, Can You Hear the Angels Sing?
has sold over 10,000 copies worldwide and looks forward
to continued success on the North American and European
markets.

to a concert hall in 2015 in preparation for release of “The
Angels Sing” Chorale Album arranged by Canadian com-
poser Kelsey Fast.

5. Reviews
“This book has been a blessing to me personally. It has much
to share on the theology of suffering and forgiveness. Your
heart and soul will be moved by the book. It is a ‘must-read’
for every pastor and for everyone who has experienced suffer-
ing or is seeking to live to glorify God.”
Rev. Dr. J.O.Y. Mante, President Trinity Theological Seminary at
Legon

“This is not an ordinary book. To travel these pages is to walk
on hallowed ground, to be reminded of the spiritual battles that
are all around, but to rise triumphant in the confidence of an all
powerful God. Since reading this book, I have found myself
going back to draw strength and confidence from its message.
It is a book that touches the soul - a book that leaves one in
awe. Words in themselves do not capture the experience of
being visited by angels, but Seth’s stories take us as hear as
we can be to such sacred moments. Prepare to be impacted.”
Prof Liz Smythe, New Zealand
“Seth Ayettey’s passion for God and commitment to social jus-
tice shine through as he explores the meaning behind the events
of his life. From the high spots in his education and career, to the
dreadful moment when he was left for dead by a gang of rob-
bers who attacked his family, his ability to see the purpose of
God being worked out is inspiring. For his many friends and
admirers, and those who have followed his ministry, this is a rev-
elatory read with great insight into issues facing modern Ghana,
Africa and the world.”
Kevin J. Jenkins, President World Vision International
“In Can You Hear the Angels Sing? Prof Ayettey’s extensive
medical background and strong Christianity are evident as he
pairs gripping accounts of life-changing events with connected
spiritual contemplations. He lays the groundwork for readers to
think of personal experiences in new and powerful ways, always
considering an expanded relationship with God. As Prof Ayettey
is an educator as well as physician and minister, his narrative is
engagingly enlightening. This book is a blessing to those who
share Prof Ayettey’s journey through his words.
David & Julie Phlegar US Department of Defense, Retired.
“This book brings a very personal message of hope, providing
great encouragement and practical examples for managing
life’s challenges. The phenomenal commitment of Seth and his
family to Christ is an inspiration. I was heartened by his hu-
manity, affirmed by his personal encounters with God and
deeply moved by his love of Christ. The book shows us how to
strengthen communities through service and in particular how
to mentor and impact children and the youth to make them
responsible instruments in our societies. I recommend the
book to you and especially to clergy to prepare their congre-
gants to face the challenges that come with following Christ.
And pray that like me, you are blessed and encouraged to live
more authentically in Christ.”

6. Book Reviewby Ellen Bortei-Doku Aryeetey as
published in the Daily Graphic
A Testimony from the Heart about God’s
Love and Favour and Call for Mission
Work.
Rev. Prof. Seth Ayettey in Can You Hear
the Angels Sing? brings to life so many
vital testimonies in the 268 pages of this
book that the reader is spoiled for choice
about where to start from. Simply put,
the book is about the faith of a humble
servant of the Lord, Rev. Prof. Ayettey
and God’s unfailing love for him and his
Family for Christ. He shares with us in-
sights into the Lord’s favour upon his life,
in joy and in pain and how he was com-
forted at various times by angelic visita-
tion. In this context he confronts the spiri-
tual challenge that came with the armed
robbery attack on his family on 6th Octo-
ber 2010, during which he was shot in
his right leg. It is fair to say that it was the
assurance of God’s grace and favour
which washed over his family that night
and lifted them beyond fear and pain that
perhaps inspired this book.
The book confirms what I have come to
appreciate about the quality of Rev. Prof.
Ayettey’s ministry and his praise and
worship of God – that in his thought,
word and deed the sacrificial life of our
Christ and Saviour is Pastor Ayettey’s
yardstick. This comes out in many ways
in the book. For example, on page 39 in
paragraph 2 he makes this powerful dec-
laration about his daily journey of faith
with God: When I carefully analyze these
events I come to the conclusion that God
is active in our lives and involved in daily
events far more closely than we can
imagine and appreciate. Chapter 4 bears
this message in the account of the
miraculous restoration of life to his right
leg which at some point during his hospi-
talization after he was shot by armed
robbers, faced the trauma of amputation.
One of the several messages that really
caught my attention in this awe inspiring
story is the role of family in God’s plans
for us. In many ways Rev. Ayettey’s
draws considerable strength from his
family of believers in his mission work.
The reader comes away with the power-
ful reminder that, the family is a key con-
duit through which we benefit from God’s
saving grace, and through which the Lord
guides us to seek and find His solutions
to our life’s struggles.
Family, Faith and Grace In Can you hear
the Angels sing? Rev. Prof. Ayettey
presents us with the different forms of
family that the Lord blesses us with for
our sojourn here on earth, in which to
grow His Kingdom and to glorify His holy
name. The biological family we are born
into is critical in this process, but the so-

7. Excerpts
From Can You Hear The Angels Sing?
“I also know the hospital would not suffer loss with my departure. No human being is indispensable.
Besides, no good leader builds a personal empire. We must build enduring institutions. And this was
what the Board was committed to achieving. The Board I chaired built on the foundations of others.
Others will build on the foundations we have laid. I am certain, therefore, the hospital will be richer
from the service of others.”
cial-spiritual family is an equally critical instrument for achiev-
ing God’s plan in our lives. This raises many questions for me.
Is it obvious to us that family members are not just people we
love in the flesh because of emotional attraction and blood
ties, but that they constitute part of the host of guardians that
God entrusts us to here on earth to support us in His mission
for us, as we support them in theirs?
The book is among other things, a testimony about God’s
love for a family that prays together and submits to His will. In
Chapter 1 – The Presence of God in the Storm - and Chapter
2 -Help Received to Save my Life - the author provides nu-
merous pieces of evidence of the role that his wife Cecilia and
his children Hannah, Mary, Sara, Ruth and Nakai and sons-in-
law individually and collectively played in manifesting God’s
grace in his life. Rev. Prof. Ayettey notes how as family mem-
bers, their own unfailing love and submission to the Lord
made it possible for Him to use them at critical times to save
their father’s life. The remarkable ways in which the Lord pro-
tected each family member, directing and redirecting their
paths before and after the robbery attack and the near fatal
shot he suffered from the robbers, are narrated in ways that
confirm that, God continues to perform miracles in our lives
even in today’s 21st Century world. But the Ayettey family
includes members of the Family for Christ, a few of who are
mentioned in Chapter Two.
Family for Christ Where do we find members of the Family for
Christ in our lives? They are the beloved in the Lord who sur-
round us - our social family of believers, including those who
minister to us and those we minister to and bring into Christ’s
fold, in direct and indirect ways. The book reveals that Rev.
Prof. Ayettey is surrounded by a very large network of Family
for Christ members at home and abroad, who promptly acted
to save his life. Who are these people and how are they a
part of our family? Do we recognize the mission they have
been given by God to support us in good times and in bad
times, which should humble us to acknowledge them and
reciprocate God’s favour by loving them in return? On page
170 in Chapter 10 the author sets out four principles that
guide his family in how to serve God through serving others –
including: sharing genuine agape love; trusting God to pro-
vide; ministering as if serving Christ and not the least, receiv-
ing God’s blessings from others.
In Chapter 9, They meant it for Evil but God meant it for
Good, and Chapter 10 – Outpouring of Love before and after
the Storm - it becomes clear to the reader that as we face
our daily battles with other people’s evil intentions towards us
the composition of our social family, our Family for Christ,
becomes critical for the quality of intercessory prayers that
the brothers and sisters in Christ raise to God on our behalf.
The last Chapter of the book, Chapter 13 – Angelic Manifes-
tations and the Hymn Ministration is a refreshing unashamed
confession by Rev. Prof. Ayettey to an angelic visitation he
was blessed with for two weeks. During this time the angels
sang inspirational hymns to reassure his ruffled soul. The
miracle of this experience and the transformational effect it
had on the author is told in frank language in the Chapter. At
the risk of tarnishing his reputation as a top scientist and Pro-
fessor of Anatomy, the author shares this experience with
angelic visitation for a number of reasons. As he explains on
page 237 paragraph 2: In sharing how God has intervened in
my life to shape me to be a blessing to others, these stories
must now be told for the big picture of His grace to be seen.
I highly recommend the book: Can you hear the Angels Sing?
to you, your family and friends and above all, for your work in
evangelism.

8. “To resist the temptation to fight back
and exact revenge, we must be pre-
pared to carry the cross of suffering.
Forgiveness is not a theoretical act. It
comes with a huge price tag for the for-
giver. To be a blessing in forgiving an of-
fender, the victim will have to endure in-
jury and pay associated costs that very
often appear to be humanly unbear-
able… and they are.
Here’s where a Kingdom mystery un-
folds. The forgiver can lay off these “un-
bearables” on Christ Himself. Our pain,
insults and grief are His! If we suffer for
His Name’s sake, the suffering is His, for
we simply represent Him. This is why
He invites us to cast our burdens upon
Him - our own burdens of sin and the
results from sinful actions of others.
Matthew 11:28 reads, “Come to me all
you who are weary and are heavy laden
and I will give you rest”.”
“For the first time, the One who loved
me and gave Himself to save me and
make me His own would carry me
home. I longed to hear Him say, “Well
done good and faithful servant”. What I
had longed for was now near.
God, however, had another plan. He
was going to save my life for me to
complete the task He has assigned and
reveal His greater glory. It was also a
precious but emotional time to bid Ce-
cilia and Naakai farewell and to commit
them and the rest of the family into
God’s gracious care. In the few minutes
between Cecilia’s call for help and the
time help arrived, these thoughts raced
through my mind. What a precious but
solemn and emotional period in my life.”

9. The Angels Sing
Suspended between heaven and earth in his hospital
bed, Seth was given a precious birthday present by
God: The sound of angels singing.
After the armed robbers attacked and left Seth for dead, he
recovered at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. Ignorant of
whether he would survive or pass on, Seth was given weeks
of the heavenly chorus of angels singing.
Experience the joy and delight of ‘O God Our Help In Ages
Past’, ‘Begone Unbelief’, and ‘All Will Be Well’ among the
powerful sounds of a choir arranged to bring blessings to all.
In collaboration with Vraeyda Sound, the hymns of Can You
