This document discusses northern pike fisheries management lessons that could be applied from Ukraine to control invasive northern pike populations in lakes in the southwestern US. It summarizes fisheries data from Ukraine, which show that northern pike populations declined due to overfishing and lack of access to spawning areas. It then describes a pilot study conducted in two lakes in the US to test mechanical removal methods like gill netting, fyke netting, and electrofishing to suppress northern pike populations based on the Ukrainian experiences. Preliminary results over one year found that these methods caught 278 northern pike.
