Camlin was founded in 1931 in Mumbai by Mr. D.P. Dandekar to provide Indian-made inks as an alternative to British imports. It was originally called Dandekar & Company and was started out of Mr. Dandekar's living quarters. In 1946, it was renamed Camlin Private Limited. Over the decades, Camlin diversified and expanded its product line to include art supplies like crayons, markers, and colors. It became a publicly traded company in 1987 and continues to be a trusted household brand in India with a network of 50,000 retailers.
