The document discusses the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement for businesses. It notes that corporate reputation is now based on trust and transparency with stakeholders as much as quality. It also states that it is a stakeholder rather than shareholder world, and that stakeholders are crucial to business success. Additionally, the document discusses how the landscape of stakeholders has changed over the years, with smaller groups gaining more power through social media. It recommends that companies engage with many diverse stakeholders but do not need to engage with everyone.

Sustainability has become an important issue on the business agenda for several reasons. Surveys show that over 90% of CEOs see sustainability as important to business success. Additionally, increasing public awareness of issues like climate change, pollution and human rights has put pressure on businesses to address sustainability. A number of political milestones and business events, from the Limits to Growth report to the Kyoto Protocol, have also brought sustainability to the forefront. While businesses initially resisted addressing sustainability issues, most now see benefits to integrating sustainability into their core strategies and operations for competitive advantage and long-term success.
This document summarizes marketing strategies for building a home performance business from a national perspective. It identifies three key insights: consumers know less than assumed about energy efficiency; they are not eager to make improvements or get evaluations; and there are two good target markets that respond to different messages. The two target markets are identified as 28% of consumers who are environmentally conscious women, and 24% of consumers who are pragmatic men motivated by financial savings and comfort. The document recommends tailoring messages to these groups' key motivators of environmental impact, comfort, and financial savings.

APM webinar sponsored by the South Wales and West of England Branch on 1 December 2022.
Speaker: Dr Jo Jolly
How we enable the vast untapped potential to transform project delivery, to deliver benefits far beyond the original stated goals of the project. This webinar was held on 1 December 2022.
Project delivery has vast potential in contributing to multiple economic, environmental and societal benefits, through our contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. However, the project delivery profession, and wider industry as a whole, is being slow to modernise and failing to learn from experience. The construction industry and consulting models are no longer fit for purpose to tackle the challenges we face, and clients hold the levers to create the right environment, and incentives, for this transformation to happen.
We need to change how we think, and what we do. We need to lever the power of data and analytics, and collaborate and trust on a scale we haven’t seen. This is why the Environment Agency and our partners are working with behavioural psychologists to help us overcome the natural human barriers that get in the way. Because, it will expose vulnerabilities and requires courage to change how we work. As leaders in project delivery, we have a choice how we lead, in these last remaining years we have to make the best difference we can. Choose wisely.

This document discusses strategic foresight techniques for anticipating the future, particularly in the context of post-COVID-19 futures. It outlines frameworks like the Four Futures archetypes, Causal Layered Analysis, STEEP trends, Futures Wheels and the Futures Cone that can be used to envision possible futures. It also examines trends to watch like remote work and learning becoming more established, increased surveillance and automation, as well as implications of reduced travel, businesses and higher education in a post-pandemic world.
This document summarizes a report on decision-making for sustainability. The report conducted a systematic review of over 200 academic articles and reports from the past 60 years to understand how individuals make decisions and how to support better decision-making that incorporates sustainability concerns. The review found that people do not always make rational decisions that maximize objectives. It identified common barriers and biases that can undermine sustainable decision-making. It also described specific decision-support techniques that have helped decision-makers incorporate sustainability in different contexts to achieve better outcomes. The report aims to provide insights to help individuals, organizations and governments improve their decision-making processes.
This document discusses the evolution of corporate sustainability and greening efforts over time. It outlines the shift from Corporate Greening 1.0 in the 1960s-1990s to Corporate Greening 2.0, driven by factors like climate change policy, activist pressure, and new business opportunities in clean energy. It emphasizes that corporate communicators need to understand trends, engage stakeholders, provide transparency and accountability, and position their company for success in the new sustainable economy.
The document discusses leadership and sustainability. It notes that while many companies are developing sustainability programs and reporting, sustainability is still viewed mainly as a cost by many leaders. The document outlines why companies are increasingly adopting sustainability frameworks, including due to stakeholder pressure, innovation opportunities, competitive advantages from efficiencies, and ensuring regulatory compliance and market access. It suggests leaders shift to a new paradigm of seeing long-term impacts and opportunities, and capturing sustainability into daily business. Leaders who do this will outperform those who don't see sustainability's relevance.

The world remade by COVID-19
Planning scenarios for resilient leaders
In the wake of COVID-19, Deloitte and Salesforce hosted a dialogue among some of the world's best-known scenario thinkers to consider the societal and business impact of the pandemic. What might life be like after the crisis passes, and what will it take to thrive in a world remade? Let’s explore four possible scenarios.
The World Remade by COVID-19 offers a view of how businesses and society may develop over the next three to five years as the world navigates the potential long-term implications of the global pandemic.
Our view is based on scenarios—stories about the future designed to spark insight and spot opportunity—created by some of the world’s best-known scenario thinkers. The collaborative dialogue hosted by Deloitte and Salesforce continues the companies’ tradition of providing foresight and insight that inform resilient leaders:
Explore how trends we see during the pandemic could shape what the world may look like in the long-term
Have productive conversations around the lasting implications and impacts of the crisis
Identify decisions and actions that will improve resilience to the rapidly changing landscape
Move beyond “recovering” from the crisis, and towards “thriving” in the long run

We are in uncharted waters, yet leaders must take decisive action to ensure their organizations are resilient. We’ve outlined four COVID-19 scenarios for society and business that illustrate different ways we could emerge from the crisis—and what’s required to thrive in a world remade.
This document summarizes Flip Tanedo's presentation on equity as an early career academic. Tanedo discusses their experience on the tenure track and lessons learned. As a student, the focus is individual survival and support, but as a faculty member the goals shift to lifting others, changing institutions, and stewarding disciplines through mentoring and persistence. Achieving equity requires understanding incentives and compensating equity work. Building trust in institutions is important but fragile, so efforts should reaffirm shared values.

The document summarizes lessons learned from Greensburg, Kansas about leadership and sustainability after a devastating tornado destroyed the town in 2007. It discusses how community leaders rebuilt in a sustainable way by focusing on green building, partnerships across sectors, and youth leadership programs. While challenges remain around housing and services, the town's "can do" attitude and long-term planning have enabled it to rebuild in a way that considers future generations. The key lessons highlighted are the importance of vision, communication, patience, and using crises as an opportunity to enact positive change through alternative ideas.

Navigating the COVID-19 Independent School Financial Crisis
April 14, 2020
Presenters: Ari Betof and Kelsey Vrooman
Independent schools must quickly prepare for the unprecedented financial sustainability challenges the COVID-19 global pandemic poses. Ongoing expense obligations coupled with potential declines in net tuition revenue, philanthropy, and auxiliary income risk creating a multi-stage crisis that will challenge all independent schools and may push schools in weaker positions past the point of viability.
AIMS and AISGW invite heads of school and CFOs to join in discussion with Ari Betof and Kelsey Vrooman as they model the combination of financial factors already impacting independent schools and those likely to arise in the weeks ahead. Using example schools with differing levels of financial health, this webinar will drive home the importance of mission-driven, community-focused, data-informed decision making in response to financial challenges and offer strategies for school leaders in uncertain times.
April 21, 2020
Numerous independent schools across the nation entered the COVID-19 global pandemic on thin ice and struggling with issues of viability. Like a plane headed for a mountain, the only possibilities are to dramatically alter course and pull up before it is too late or realize a crash is inevitable and soften the landing as much as possible. No leadership team or board wants to acknowledge that their school may not (or will not) survive. True stewardship involves being honest and forthright about the universe of possible and impossible futures for the school both as a nonprofit organization and as an educational community.
Independent school associations around the country invite heads of school, leadership teams, and board members to a confidential discussion about these challenging issues. The expert panel will discuss tangible steps schools should consider in this moment of extreme challenge. Please note that participants will be able to take part and ask questions anonymously during the webinar.
Featuring Ari Betof, John Gulla, Jim Hulbert, Kristen Power and Debra Wilson.
