This document describes a study that aimed to develop a methodology for determining the orientation of an alignment with minimum precision sufficient for civil infrastructure projects. The study involved a literature review, theoretical concepts, analytical processes, and evaluation of results. Observations of the sun were made using a TOPCON total station to calculate the geographic azimuth with a precision of approximately ± 30''. Calculations were shown for determining latitude, declination, the shadow length ratio, and finally the geographic azimuth of 127°22'27'' based on the morning solar observations.
