Cain Chairez completed a "Pay It Forward" project over his Christmas break where he performed 3 acts of kindness for strangers and encouraged them to do the same for 3 other people. The first act was giving his extra jacket to a homeless man he saw standing in the cold. The second was buying lunch for two elderly veterans at a fast food restaurant. The third act was fixing his father's broken grill so he could cook for Christmas. Through these acts, Cain learned that doing small kindnesses for others can make a positive difference.

This is a short story I wrote about 2 years ago and I still love reading it and sharing it with others. This story is about a troubled teen who faces real life problems everyday and struggles to fight them, to find out if she does, give it a read. It is very dramatic and suspenseful. I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much so.

Pay It Forward.
Paying it forward, a meaning to me that consist of doing a favor or an act of kindness for
someone and telling them to pay it forward for 3 other people, considering I am probably not one
of the nicest most generous people out there. Though doing this project meant over my
Christmas break I had to an act of kindness for someone who I don’t even know or even deserves
it. The thought of seeing myself doing that and going through with it three freaking times was
more than likely impossible. Yet I found myself proving that thought wrong.
It all started the December 23, 2012. Around 10:00am coming home from a morning
workout, I was walking home. Now it was a very cold day that morning and I remember I
brought two jackets because it was even colder the morning I left. Anyways, I was walking home
and I was passing a un built house to my left hand side, and at the corner of my eye I saw a
figure. Just out of curiosity I looked over, I only saw someone standing by what was supposed to
be a window. Now I didn’t really know what to expect I just wanted to know what or who was
there, as I was walking over there I noticed it was a homeless man carrying no more than
walmart bag of maybe 2 pairs of clothes. I asked if everything was okay, he just responded with
a polite yes but asked if any small change had, I felt bad because I didn’t. Yet I remembered I
had my extra jacket, knowing the man was cold I asked if he wanted it, but surprisingly he said
2. no. I asked him why but he had no response and just kind of curled up in to a ball. So I told him
that I was offering my jacket to him as an act of kindness and that maybe he could do the same
for 3 other people, he wasn’t too fond of the idea but I told him you never know maybe just one
act could change someone’s life. He accepted my jacket and my idea to pay it forward to 3 other
people. I was really happy I did that for someone, even though I didn’t think I had it in me.
Later on that day it was about 2 in the afternoon and I was on my way to Wal-Mart to
pick up some groceries and I decided stop at Jack in the box for some tacos. I walked inside
because the line was too long. When I walked in there I saw two old men, just chatting and
minding their business. Knowing that I had done an act of kindness for someone already that
morning I didn’t see any problem with trying to do it again, so I decided to buy them a meal on
my behalf as an act of kindness. Now they didn’t know that because I surprised them with it,
they were confused and amused at the same time questioning on why I would do such a thing for
them. After I finished explain the project and the whole purpose of my kindness it turns out they
were Vietnam war veterans. I felt bad because not knowing what they have already been through
I was asking two men that have already been through hell itself to “pay it forward”, but it ended
up as them accepting my challenge and said they would be happy to pay it forward and thanked
me for politeness and time. It was a very nice moment to experience.
Two down, I remember thinking that night. Just one more and I can write that paper for
English. It was 7:00pm and I was home. It was already dark and I didn’t really plan on going
anywhere or doing anything that night so I just stayed in my room thinking of what else could I
do to get this act of kindness done with. I went down stairs to go get me some water when I
overheard my dad wishing he could fix his grill bed because he really wanted to cook on it for
Christmas, but he said he no time because of work. Then I thought to myself that I could do it for
3. him, knowing he has work all the time and is so busy, it would be a real help to my dad if I did
that for him. So I did, I went out actually that night after they went to sleep and fixed his grill
bed with some super glue and bolts. The next morning I told him what I did and I was very
thankful and was happy of what I did. I also told the reason I did it and why he should do the
same, he told me that he would try and was proud of what of I did that day.
Finally, is what I thought to myself before going to bed. I am done with it and I don’t
have to be nice anymore, but something in the back of my head was telling me that doing
something nice for someone even it isn’t big can make a difference. I hope that the people I
helped that day pay it forward so that people can maybe understand helping someone out is a
truly good deal.
